New Releases, Updates and Takedowns

Takedowns and Rights Restore via Play Portal

You can take down a product (remove all its rights from all regions) directly from its Portal product detail page, without having to deliver via the feed. To take a product down (or restore rights):

  1. Log into the Portal.
  2. Search for the product that you'd like to take down in the top search box. Remember to use search prefixes such as upc: to search for UPC.
  3. Once found, click the product to view the product page.
  4. To take the product down, click the Take Down button at the top of the page.

Notes on Takedowns and Rights Restore via the Play Portal

  • Portal takedowns and restores are handled in the same manner as feed takedowns, restores, and updates.
    • Takedowns and restores will go into effect just as quickly as a takedown via the content feed.
    • Takedowns and restores will over-write previous feed updates (except that you cannot restore from the Portal takedowns initiated via the feed).
    • Takedowns and restores will be over-written by subsequent feed updates.

Please contact the Ops team (playmusicops@google.com) to enable Take down and Restore functionality for your Portal account.

New Releases, Updates and Takedowns via Content Delivery Feed

Please submit all new releases and updates for artwork, metadata, rights changes (takedowns can also now be managed in the Portal) and pricing for previously delivered releases through your content delivery feed. When making a takedown request, Google Play can only remove catalog content that you have delivered via your content feed.

When delivering an update or takedown, please allow up to 72 hours for the content update to be processed and for the changes to show in the Google Play Music store. Pricing and other updates must be delivered via your content delivery feed and email requests for updates and takedowns may not be honored. Note again that takedowns (and restores) can be enabled via the Portal

Please be sure to allow the 72 hour processing time for content updates, and to confirm whether the changes have taken place in the Google Play Music store, before contacting the content ingestion team about the status of a content update.

In order to maintain high data standards in our product, Google Play Music will make topical changes to metadata from time to time to meet our Data Standards. Our team does not make manual updates to metadata by partner request -- please send any requested metadata updates via your DDEX content delivery feed.

If you feel that a metadata change has been made in error, please reach out to our team at playmusicops@google.com.

Copyright Disputes

If you believe that a third party has uploaded to Google Play content in which you own exclusive rights, please contact the third party in advance of taking the steps described directly below.

It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. If you feel that another party has uploaded to Google Play content in which you own exclusive rights, please submit the DMCA takedown form. This form will notify the appropriate department regarding takedown actions. If we remove or disable access in response to such a notice, we will notify the party who provided the content to Google Play. Please note that the other party may issue a counter-notification in respect of content for which you submit a takedown request.
