Your Google Play country or region determines what content you find in the Store and in apps. The apps, games and other content in the Store and in apps can vary by country or region.
- To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location and have a payment method from the new country or region.
- If you're a member of a Google family group, you can't change your Google Play country or region.
What happens when you change your Google Play country
When you change your Google Play country or region, you may lose access to some books, movies, TV shows, games and apps.
You can only change your Google Play country or region annually. After you initially set up or change your Google Play country or region, you must wait 12 months before you can make another change.
Tips:
- Some subscriptions may not be available in your new country or region.
- Developers may also cancel your subscription if they don't offer that subscription in your new country or region.
Your Google Play balance is linked to your Google Play country. When you change your country or region, you can't use the Google Play balance from your old country or region in your new country or region.
Your balance remains linked to your old country. If you change your Google Play country back to your old country, you can use that balance again.
Your Google Play Pass subscription will continue to auto-renew.
If Play Pass is available in your new country: Your access remains the same.
If Play Pass isn't available: You'll still have access to apps installed on your device, but you won't be able to browse or install additional Play Pass apps. Learn how to manage your Google Play Pass subscription.
Tip: Some apps aren't available in certain countries.
Change your Google Play country
- On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings General Account and device preferences Country and profiles.
- Tap the country where you want to add an account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add a payment method for that country.
- On your Android device, open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings General Account preferences Country and profiles.
- To change countries, tap the name of the one that you want to change to.
You may not find this option if:
- You've changed your country or region within the last year.
- You aren't currently located in a new country or region.
- You're a member of a Google family.
Fix your Google Play country update issues
If you can't change your Google Play country or can’t find the option to, try the following:
Update your Play country for Google family- If you're a member of a Google family, you can't change your Google Play country or region.
- If you want to change your Google Play country or region, please leave your Google family group.
- If you're the Google family manager of a Google family group and need to change your Google Play country or region, delete your Google family group.
- Sign in to Google Pay.
- At the top, click Settings.
- Under 'Payments profile', find 'Country/Region'.
- This section displays your current Play country.
- If it’s incorrect, create a new profile for your country.

Tip: If you recently changed your country, wait at least 48 hours for the change to take effect.
- Find the Google Play Store app on your device's home or app screen.
- Touch and hold the Google Play Store app.
- Tap App info .
- Tap Storage and cache Clear cache.
- Tap Clear storage Delete.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings About Update Play Store.
- The app will update or notify you that your version is up to date.
More troubleshooting steps
If you tried all the steps above and it's been more than 24 hours, try these troubleshooting steps.
Clear cache and data of Download Manager- Go to Settings Apps All apps.
- Scroll to 'Download Manager'.
- Clear the cache and data:
- For Android 6.0 and up: Tap Storage Clear cache and clear data.
- For Android 5.1.1 and lower: Tap Clear cache and clear data.
To uninstall Google Play Store app updates:
- On your device's home or app screen, find the Google Play Store app.
- Touch and hold the Google Play Store app .
- Tap App info.
- At the top right, tap More Uninstall updates.
- Review the info and tap OK.
To reinstall Google Play Store app updates:
- Open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile picture.
- Tap Settings About.
- Under 'Play Store version', tap Update Play Store.
When you remove your account, some information is removed from your device. Make sure that you back up any important information before you complete this step.
Important:
- It's not recommended to clear Google Play services unless you've tried all other troubleshooting options.
- When you clear Google Play services data or storage, it may delete some information saved to your device. Information includes passwords, travel cards, COVID cards and virtual payment cards saved to Google Pay.
- You may also need to reauthenticate your payment methods on Google Pay and sign back in to your Google Account on all devices.
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- If you can't find 'Google Play services', tap See all apps.
- Tap Google Play services.
- Tap Storage and cache Clear cache.
- Tap Clear storage Clear all data Delete.
Re-enable password protection and parental controls.
