Read comics with Bubble Zoom on Google Play Books

To read comics easier, you can make speech bubbles bigger and expand your comic to fill the whole screen. Bubble Zoom is available for Marvel and DC collected volumes in English and some popular comics in Japanese.

Important: Bubble Zoom is not available on computer.

Find out if a comic book has Bubble Zoom

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. Search for a comic.
  3. Tap the comic.
  4. Find the banner: "Part of the Bubble Zoom tech preview" or the Bubble Zoom icon .

Turn Bubble Zoom on or off

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. Open a comic that uses Bubble Zoom.
  3. Tap the center of the page.
  4. At the top, tap Display options Display optionsand then Zoom and then turn Bubble Zoom on or off.
If you turn off Bubble Zoom, it will turn off for all the comics on that device.

Zoom in & move through speech bubbles

To move through speech bubbles, make sure you're in full-screen mode.

  • Move forward: Swipe up and then tap the right side of the screen, or press the volume down button.
  • Move backward: Swipe down and then tap the left side of the screen, or press the volume up button.
  • Make a text bubble bigger: Double tap a speech bubble.

Stop using the volume button to move through speech bubbles

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app Play Books .
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings and then Use volume key to turn pages.
  3. Select "Never, and don't zoom in on speech bubbles."

Fix problems with Bubble Zoom

Step 1: Check that the comic uses Bubble Zoom
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. Search for a comic.
  3. Tap the comic to enter the detail page.
  4. Find the banner: "Part of the Bubble Zoom tech preview."

If Bubble Zoom is available but isn't working, try the steps to fix book loading issues. If that doesn't work, go to step 2.

Step 2: Check whether Bubble Zoom is working
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, go to a page with speech bubbles on it.
  2. Tap the screen, swipe up or down, or press the volume key.
    • If a bubble gets bigger, the feature is working.
    • If it doesn't get bigger, go to step 3.
Step 3: Check if Bubble Zoom is on
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the comic that uses Bubble Zoom.
  2. Tap the center of the page.
  3. Tap Display options Display optionsand then turn Bubble Zoom on.
Step 4: Contact Google
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the comic where Bubble Zoom isn't working.
  2. If it’s not working on a specific page, go to that page.
  3. Tap the center of the page.
  4. Tap More Moreand then Feedback and then Send Feedback.
  5. Describe your issue and tap Send Send.
