Cast movies & shows to a TV

With a Chromecast device, you can play movies and shows from another device on your TV.

With the Google Play Movies & TV extension, you can play videos on your TV using Chromecast.

Tip: Before streaming videos, make sure that your computer is connected to the same WiFi network as your Chromecast.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome Chrome.
  2. Go to Google Play Movies & TV.
  3. Click My Movies or My TV shows.
  4. Choose a movie or show and click Play.
  5. At the top, click Cast Cast.
  6. Under "Connect to a device," select your Chromecast from the device list.
    • To disconnect, click Cast Cast and then Stop casting.

Video controls: You can pause, rewind, or fast forward your video through the Google Play Movies player.

Note: You may want to keep the video player open when using your computer with Chromecast. Playback controls can't be used after the video player has been closed, the computer has been turned off, or an internet connection has been lost.

Using a Chromebook
  1. Make sure you've installed the Google Cast extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. At the bottom of your screen, click the Launcher Launcher.
  3. Select Play Movies. You may need to click Up Arrow Up arrow to see All apps first.
  4. At the top of your video player, click Cast Cast.
  5. Under "Connect to a device," select your Chromecast from the device list.
  6. Select and play a video.

To disconnect from your Chromecast, click Cast Cast and then Stop casting.

Add the Cast button to Chrome toolbar

You can pin the Cast button to your Chrome toolbar to easily access the Cast functionality from any web page.

  1. In the top right corner of the Chrome browser, click Menu More and then Cast.
  2. Cast Cast will temporarily appear in your toolbar. Right-click on Cast Cast and then Always show icon.

Playback tips

  • HD movie rentals play in HD on Chromecast, even if your phone isn't capable of HD playback.
  • Chromecast continues to play your video when your phone or tablet runs out of battery. To access video controls again, connect another device to the Chromecast.
  • To save battery, turn off your device’s screen during playback.
  • If you're signed in to YouTube, make sure that you're signed in with the same Google Account.
