Prevent accidental or unwanted purchases

You can help prevent accidental purchases made from the Play Store app by requiring certain information be entered to make a purchase, like a password.

Authentication options for purchases

There are three purchase authentication options available in the Play Store app:

For all purchases: Authentication is required for every digital content purchase through Google Play (including within apps) on your device.

Every 30 minutes: Every time you authenticate for a purchase, you can continue to buy all forms of digital content through Google Play (including within apps) for the next 30 minutes without authenticating again.

Never: Disabling authentication may result in unauthorized purchases. You assume responsibility for all charges.

Note: Authentication is always required for purchases through Google Play within apps designated for ages 12 and under. Learn more.

Turn authentication on or off for each device

Authentication settings apply only to the device where you add them. If you use your Google Account on more than one device, you must repeat the steps below on each device.

On your mobile device
  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Google Play Store Menu Icon > Settings.
  3. Touch Require authentication for purchases.
  4. Choose a setting.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
On Android TV
  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Select Settings > Purchase authorization.
  3. Choose a setting.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: If you don't remember your username or password, you can visit the Account Recovery page.
