Set up your Pixel Tablet in the Google Home app

To access media and home control features in Hub Mode, set up your Pixel Tablet in the Google Home app. You have the option to add your Pixel Tablet to your home when you first set up Hub Mode. If you skip this step, you can add your device to the Google Home app later.

  • To dock your Pixel Tablet or use Hub Mode, you need a Charging Speaker Dock. You can purchase the Pixel Tablet with or without a dock, or purchase a dock separately.
  • When you add your Charging Speaker Dock to the Google Home app, your Pixel Tablet will be added automatically. You can find your Pixel Tablet's device tile in Settings and then Devices, groups and rooms.

What you need to get started​

  • A Google Pixel Tablet and Charging Speaker Dock
  • Latest version of the Google Home app.
  • Latest version of the Google app.
  • A Google Account.
  • A mobile phone or tablet that:
    • Has Android 9.0 or later.
    • Works with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA-2 Enterprise network won't work).
    • Has Bluetooth turned on.
  • An Internet connection and secure wireless network.

Get started

  1. Plug in your Charging Speaker Dock and attach your Pixel Tablet to the dock.
  2. On your Pixel Tablet or another mobile device, open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap Devices Add Google Nest or partner device Google Nest or partner device.
    • If you don't see Add , tap Create home and follow the instructions on the screen.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen.
  5. You'll be able to opt out of some settings, like Voice Match or personal results. You can change these settings at any time after you complete setup.

Fix issues during setup

Pixel Tablet doesn't appear in the Google Home app

Make sure that your Pixel Tablet is attached to the Charging Speaker Dock properly

  1. Remove your Pixel Tablet from the Charging Speaker Dock.
  2. Dock your Pixel Tablet. Learn how to dock your Pixel Tablet properly.

Restart your Charging Speaker Dock

  1. Unplug your device.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

Restart the Home app

  1. Close the Home app Google Home app. Find out how to close apps.
  2. Open the Home app Google Home app.

Setup freezes or can't finish

Restart your Charging Speaker Dock

  1. Unplug your device.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
  3. Start the setup process again.
