Factory reset your Pixel Tablet or Charging Speaker Dock

If you have trouble resolving issues with your Pixel Tablet or Charging Speaker Dock after you restart your tablet, you can perform a factory reset to restore the tablet or dock to its original settings. Before you perform a factory reset, you can reset your network or app settings to their original state.

If you factory reset your tablet, all of your data will be deleted from its internal storage, including:

  • Your Google Account and user profile data
  • System and app data and settings
  • Downloaded apps

1. Troubleshoot issues with your tablet

If you want to factory reset your tablet to fix an issue, we recommend that you try other solutions first, like restarting your device. Learn how to troubleshoot issues with your tablet.
2. Back up your Google Account data
  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap About tablet and then Google Account and then Account sync.
    1. Tip: If you have more than one account, tap the one you want to sync.
  3. Turn on each setting you want to sync.
  4. At the top, tap More More and then Sync now.
When you perform a manual sync, your account data is refreshed for all your apps made by Google, including any with auto-sync turned off.

You can also back up your files automatically with Google One:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Google and then Backup and then Back up now.

3. Charge and connect your tablet

A factory reset can take up to an hour. Make sure your tablet is charged and connected to a network:

  1. Dock your tablet or charge it to at least 70%.
  2. Connect your tablet to a Wi-Fi network. When the factory reset completes, you need to be connected to sign into your Google Account.

4. Perform a factory reset

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Reset options and then Erase all data (factory reset).
  3. Tap Erase all data and then follow the on-screen instructions.
5. (Advanced) Perform a factory reset with your tablet's buttons

If you can't factory reset your Pixel Tablet from the Settings app Settings app or can't use your screen, you can use your tablet's buttons instead:

  1. If your Pixel Tablet is on, turn it off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for up to 10-15 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
    • If you hold down the buttons for too long, the tablet restarts. If this happens, try again from step 1.
  3. Use the Volume buttons to select Recovery Mode and then press the Power button once to select it.
  4. When "No command" is displayed on your screen, press and hold your tablet's Power button. While you hold down the Power button, press the Volume Up button and then quickly let go of both buttons.
  5. When Android Recovery options are displayed, use the Volume buttons to select Wipe data/factory reset and then press the Power button.
  6. Use the Volume buttons to select Factory data reset and then press the Power button to begin the reset.
  7. After the reset completes, use the Volume buttons to select Reboot system now and then press the Power button.
  8. After the OS install completes, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your tablet and restore your backed-up data. Learn how to back up or restore data.

6. (Optional) Reset remotely with Find My Device

If you lose your tablet, you can remotely reset it. Your tablet must be connected to the Internet and you need to turn on Find My Device:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security & privacy and then Find My Device and then turn on Use Find My Device.

Factory reset your Charging Speaker Dock

If you factory reset your dock, it won't affect the data on your tablet.

To reset your dock:

  1. Remove your dock from the Google Home app.
  2. Make sure your dock is plugged into a wall outlet.
  3. Remove your tablet from the dock.
  4. Find the small, circular indentation on the bottom of the dock, close to the power cord.
  5. Press and hold down the button until you hear four musical tones and a final tone.

Note: After you reset your dock, wait until the chime plays to re-attach your tablet to the dock. After you dock your tablet, you'll need to set it up with Google Home again.

If you can't reset your tablet

If you can't factory reset your tablet for any reason, you can remove your Google Account from it:

  1. In a web browser, go to myaccount.google.com.
  2. Tap Security and then Your devices.
  3. Where the device is listed, tap More More and then Sign out.

Important: Your backup will be deleted if you delete your Google Account from your tablet.
