Receive or claim money someone sent you

You can receive money from friends and family with Google Pay. Google Pay doesn’t charge fees to send or receive money.

Funds you receive or claim appear as money in Google Pay or in your Google Pay balance. At any time, you can transfer out the money. For future transactions or to send money to friends, you can also use your Google Pay balance if you verify your identity.
If you have the Google Pay app
  • If the sender can find you in the Google Pay app: You don’t have to perform any action to receive the money. The funds appear either as money in Google Pay or in your Google Pay balance. Learn about Google Pay balance.
  • If the sender can’t find you in the Google Pay app: You get a text or email from Google that says someone sent you money. Within 7 days, you must claim it or the money is returned to the sender.

    To accept or decline money sent to you from a sender who can’t find you in the app:
    1. Open the Google Pay app .
    2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or Account .
    3. Tap Money in Google Pay or Google Pay balance.
    4. Under “Pending activities,” review any transactions that are pending acceptance.
    5. Tap View payment. You’ll get a notification that if you continue, your profile will be shared with the sender.
      • Tip: You can choose to block the sender on the app. Otherwise, tap Continue.
    6. Tap Accept or Decline.

If you accept, the funds will appear either as money in Google Pay or in your Google Pay balance. Learn about Google Pay balance.

Tip: To make future transactions easier, turn on “Help friends find and pay you.” Learn more about how to help people find you.
If you don’t have the Google Pay app

When someone sends you money, you get a text or email from Google with instructions on how to claim it. Within 7 days, you must claim it or the money is returned to the sender.

To claim the money:

  1. From the text or email, use the link to download the Google Pay app.
  2. Follow the steps on your screen to get started with Google Pay.
  3. Sign in with the same phone number or email that received the message. You can only claim the money if you sign up with the phone number that the request was sent to.
  4. After you set up the Google Pay app, on the Pay screen , tap the name or picture of the person that sent you money.
  5. Review the notification that your profile is shared with the sender.
  6. Tap Continue and then Accept.
