Learn which Nest Protect alerts and alarms can be silenced

All Heads-Up alerts and some Emergency Alarms can be silenced. However, if smoke levels are too high, then the alarm can’t be silenced - this is an industry requirement for all smoke alarms.

We made Google Nest Protect easy to silence, so you can focus on addressing the problem if you've only burned dinner. The table below outlines which alarms you can silence and when:

Heads-Up alert for smoke

Can be silenced.

Heads-Up alert for carbon monoxide

Can be silenced.

Emergency Alarm for smoke

Can be silenced unless smoke levels are too high.

Note: This is true for all smoke alarms — it's
an industry requirement.

Emergency Alarm for carbon monoxide

Can be silenced.

If you have multiple Nest Protects, they will all speak if there's a Heads-Up alert or an Emergency Alarm. That way, if there's smoke in the bedroom, the Nest Protect in the living room will tell you about it. We've made it easy to silence all your Nest Protects with the Nest app or by pressing the Nest button.
