The Nest app will walk you through Nest Hello installation step-by step with detailed instructions, so you should use the app as your primary guide, but we’ve provided the basic steps and some extra details here.

Important: If you purchased the optional Indoor Power Adapter, visit our article about installing the Nest Hello with the Indoor Power Adapter. Do not follow the instructions in this article which show you how to install Hello without the adapter.
1. Check compatibility and voltage requirements
While most wired doorbells can be replaced by Nest Hello, there are some cases where there isn’t enough power or too much power. So it’s essential to check that your current doorbell can be replaced by Nest Hello. Please go to the following article for detailed instructions:

Note: If the compatibility checker says your doorbell system isn’t compatible with Hello, you have two options:

Purchase the optional Indoor Power Adapter so you can plug your Hello into an indoor outlet, then follow the instructions in this article: How to install Hello with the Indoor Power Adapter.

Have a local pro upgrade your doorbell’s power transformer and connect Hello to your doorbell’s wires.
2. Install Nest Hello
1. What You'll need for installation
Everything you need to get started installing Nest Hello is in the box.
Check that you have all the parts. We’ve also included wall anchors and a masonry drill bit (for brick, stone and stucco) if you need them.
Basic tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Power drill with Phillips bit
- Ladder (to reach your doorbell chime)
- Bubble level (to check doorbell alignment)
Nest app and internet requirements
- Compatible phone or tablet (check the requirements here)
- Your Wi-Fi network password
- A broadband internet connection, with a minimum of 2 Mbps upload speed for each camera in your home
2. Sign into your Nest Account or create one
- If you’re new to Nest: Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to download the Nest app and create a free account.
- If you already own a Nest product: Sign into your account on the app, if you aren’t already.
Note: If you have more than one home in your Nest Account, make sure that you’ve first selected the Nest home where you want to install your camera. Tap Menu 
3. Scan the QR code
The app will ask you to scan the QR code on your product Once the app knows what you’re installing it will guide you through all the steps. Tip: If you’re having trouble scanning the code, make Start with your phone about a foot away and If you still can’t scan the code, tap Continue Without |

4. Turn off power

5. Remove the chime cover

8. Follow the app's chime wiring instructions
Next, the app will walk you through the steps to connect your chime wires.
You’ll get custom instructions depending on what wires you entered into the app. So it’s critical to follow the specific wiring the app tells you.
We’ll run through the most common wiring example for replacing a front doorbell with Nest Hello. If your doorbell wiring is different, don’t worry, the app has detailed instructions for advanced wiring as well. So follow what the Nest app tells you to get the right wiring instructions for your chime.

Disconnect the wire from the front terminal on the chime. When you're done, the wiring should appear as pictured.

9. Mount the chime connector
Once the wiring is done, find a place to put the chime connector.
Make sure the connector and wires don’t touch the chime or any moving parts, or it may not sound right or work at all.
If space is very tight, it may be easier to attach the connector to the outside of your chime cover.
10. Replace your chime cover
11. Disconnect your current doorbell
Remove your current doorbell and disconnect the wires. You’ll probably need a screwdriver for this step.
Tip: Bend the doorbell wires or tape them so they don’t slip back into the wall.

13. Mark holes for the wall plate

Now you’ll mark screw holes for installation with the Important: You may not be able to re-use the screw hole Again, make sure the Nest logo is at the bottom. |

14. Install the wall plate

Drill pilot holes with a 3/32nd drill bit or use the included Install the screws. Make sure the Nest logo is at the bottom. Use a bubble level to double check that the plate is level. |

15. Connect the wires

Before connecting, make sure the wires are clean. Connect the wires to Nest Hello. It doesn’t If the wires are too short, use the wire extenders |

17. Switch the power on

Nest Hello will take a few seconds to turn on. You’ll hear a chime and the light ring should start pulsing blue.
If it’s not, select “No, it’s not blue” in the app and it will help you troubleshoot.
19. Troubleshoot if needed
If there’s no light on Nest Hello, go back to your chime box and double check that you’ve correctly wired the Nest connector.
If the light is blinking yellow, Nest Hello isn’t getting enough power to stream video. You’ll need to contact a local pro to upgrade the voltage of your doorbell wires.
3. Connect Hello to the Nest app
1. Enter Hello's location and your Wi-Fi info
First, you’ll tell the app where you installed Nest Hello.
Then you’ll select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
If you already have a Nest product installed in your home, Nest Hello will try to get your Wi-Fi info from it.
If Hello can’t connect to your Wi-Fi network, you can try moving your router a bit closer or adding a Wi-Fi extender.
2. Test the video stream and chime
Once Hello is connected to Wi-Fi and the app, the app will test the video.
Ring the doorbell to check that your chime is working. You should also get a notification from the app that someone’s at your door.
If you have an electric chime that doesn’t have moving parts, you may need to adjust the duration with the app so you can hear it ring.
3. Troubleshoot if needed
- If you have a mechanical chime with moving parts and it didn’t ring or didn’t sound right, remove the chime cover and check that the wires aren’t touching any moving parts.
- Then test your chime again.
- If your chime still doesn’t sound right, try installing the connector on the outside of your chime cover.
4. Select other options
For the last step you’ll choose some more settings:
- Opt to try out Nest Aware for free
- Pick a language Hello will speak to visitors
- Choose to turn on audio recording and familiar face detection
4. (optional) Get visitor announcements on your Google Home device
If you have a Google Assistant-enabled speaker or display, it can announce when someone rings your doorbell. You’ll need to set up this connection separately after installing Hello. For complete instructions, visit the following article:
