How to control your Nest Protect with the Nest app

The Nest app lets you control and get information about your Google Nest Protect with a computer, phone or tablet that’s connected to the internet. Just sign into your account in the app to see and manage all the Nest Protects in your home.

During setup, you’ll add Nest Protect to your account in the                     
Nest app. You can only use the app on your phone or tablet for
Protect setup.

Quick tips

See the status of your Nest Protects

To see the status of your Nest Protects, select the Protect icon              
on the Nest app home screen. You’ll see the status of each of
your Protects.

Tap on one of your Protects, and you’ll see a pop-up showing you any carbon monoxide or smoke alarms, battery and sensor status, as well as the date and time of the last test and internet connection. Swipe left or right to switch between each of your Protects.

How to get to Nest Protect Settings

  1. Select Protect on the app the home screen.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon in the top right corner of the screen.

You’ll see the following basic settings that will apply to all of
your Protects:

Sound Check 

You can set your Protect to check its sensors, power and Wi-Fi connection on a monthly basis.
Tap the switch to turn it on.

Silencing alarms 

Turn this on if you want to be able to silence an alarm with the Nest app. For details, visit

Note: You won’t see this option if you have a 1st generation Nest Protect (how to identify)

Works with Protect: 

If you have a Google Nest thermostat in the same Nest home, you can turn emergency shutoff on
so that your thermostat will automatically turn off if Protect detects smoke or CO. For

If you have a Google Nest camera, video capture will automatically turn on and record a clip when
there is a smoke or CO alarm.

you’ll also get essential tips and an emergency number button so you can call quickly.

How to get to individual Nest Protect
settings

In Settings, you can change the location and label of your Nest
Protect, turn on or off individual features such as Pathlight or
remove your Nest Protect from your account. You can also view
your Nest Protect’s Technical info.

  1. Select Protect on the app home screen.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon in the top right corner.
  3. Select a Protect to see its settings.

 

Nest Sense 

Here you’ll see the different Nest Protect features. You can turn On or Off Pathlight, Nightly
Promise, Steam Check, and Heads-Up.

Brightness

You can adjust how bright you would like Pathlight and Nightly Promise. Choose from low,
medium, or high.

Spoken language 

Here you can choose which language Nest Protect should speak.

Note: Changing this setting will only affect one Protect’s language. Learn more in the

Wi-Fi connection 

Your Nest Protects need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network so they can work together.

Tip: Write down the entry keys for all of your Protects and keep it in a safe place in case
you need to update your Wi-Fi information.

Where 

Here you can edit the name of your Nest Protect and add an optional description to help you identify it.

View details about your Nest Protect, including:                                

  • Model
  • Serial number
  • Software version
  • Battery life or backup battery
  • Replace by date
  • Last update date
  • Wi-Fi MAC address
  • Wi-Fi IP address
  • 802.15.4 MAC address
