The Google Home app guides you through the steps to set up your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.

What you need to get started
- A Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
- Latest version of the Google Home app

- A Google Account.
- An Android phone or tablet that:
- Has Android 9.0 or later.
- Works with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA-2 Enterprise network won't work).
- Has Bluetooth turned on.
- Is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want to connect your Google Nest or Home speaker or display to.
- An Internet connection and secure wireless network.
Get started with your speaker or display
Important:
- Make sure to plug your speaker or display into a wall outlet.
- If the device has been used before, factory reset your speaker or display before you continue.
- Open the Google Home app

At the top right, tap Add
Device
.
- Or, if a setup screen for your device appears, tap Set up or Next.
- If it’s not the correct device, tap Not now or Set up a different device.
- Or, if a setup screen for your device appears, tap Set up or Next.

Scan the QR code of your device. A check mark appears when the scan is complete.
- If you can’t scan the QR code:
- Tap Use setup code, then enter the setup code for your device.
Tip: The Google Home app provides additional details to help you locate and use your device setup code.
- Tap Add a different way, enter your device in the search bar, then select your device.
- Tap Use setup code, then enter the setup code for your device.
- If you can’t scan the QR code:
- Wait for your app to connect to the device. Once it’s finished, you’ll see a confirmation screen that says, “Connected.”
- Follow the in-app steps to complete setup.
If the app can’t find your device, go to Can't find Google smart speaker or display in the Google Home app.
Finish setting up your Nest speaker or display
After you connect your Nest speaker or display to Wi-Fi, follow the in-app steps to customize your device. You can choose to opt in to features such as:
You can also set up your Photo Frame, connect media services, and set up calling. If you opt out of any of these settings or features, you can set them up later.
