Set content exclusions for Video campaigns

Content exclusion settings let you opt out of showing your Video campaigns alongside content that may not be appropriate for your brand or serve your advertising goals. 

This article gives step-by-step instructions on how to set content exclusions for Video campaigns.

Before you begin

Instructions

Set content exclusions when you create a new Video campaign

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the page menu on the left, click Campaigns.
  3. Click the plus button , then select New campaign.
  4. Select one or more goals for your campaign, or if none of the goals fit what you’re looking for, select Create a campaign without a goal’s guidance
  5. For "Campaign type", select Video. Enter the required information to create your campaign. 
  6. In the "Content exclusions" panel:
    • Click Inventory type and select an inventory type for your Video campaign.
    • Click Excluded types and labels and select content types and digital content labels to exclude from your Video campaign.
  7. Create an ad group and a video ad. (You can skip these steps and complete them later.)
  8. Click Save and continue.

Set content exclusions when you edit a Video campaign

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the navigation menu on the left, click Video campaigns.
  3. From the page menu on the left, click Settings.
  4. Click the name of the Video campaign you want to edit.
  5. In the "Content exclusions" panel:
    • Click Inventory type to select an inventory type for your Video campaign.
    • Click Excluded types and labels and select content types and digital content labels to exclude from your Video campaign.
  6. Click Save.

Set content exclusions for all Video campaigns

Account-level control of content exclusions is only available in the new Google Ads experience.

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the navigation menu on the left, click All Campaigns.
  3. From the page menu on the left, click Settings.
  4. At the top of page, click Account settings.
  5. In the Content exclusions panel:
    • Click Inventory type and select the inventory type you want to apply to all Video campaigns in your account.
      Note: Even if you set account-level content exclusions, you have the option of setting a more restrictive content exclusion for your individual Video campaigns. Individual Video campaigns can’t have less restrictive content exclusions than the content exclusions you set in your account.
    • Click Excluded types and labels and select content types and digital content labels you want to exclude for all your campaigns, including Video campaigns.
  6. Click Save.
