Review your budget

A competitive budget helps ensure that your ads get the right amount of exposure to customers. When you create your Smart campaign, we’ll recommend a budget based on average click volume for your business type and your location. Choose a budget that you’re comfortable with, while also allowing you to serve your ads as frequently as you’d like.

Write effective ads

Your ad gives you the chance to showcase your business and attract potential customers. An effective ad clearly and accurately describes your business and distinguishes you from your competition. Review your ads regularly to make sure they’re sending the right message, or let us help you improve your ad text with ad suggestions.

To help ensure that your ads meet your chosen goals, use the following guidelines:

  • Write between 3 and 15 headlines with no more than 30 characters each
  • Write between 2 and 4 descriptions with no more than 90 characters each
Tip: Headlines and descriptions can appear in any order, so make sure that they make sense individually (or in any combination) and that they don't violate our policies or local law.

Write different versions of your ad

For best results, we recommend that you take advantage of the 3 ad maximum, by adding 3 different versions of your ad for each Smart campaign. There's no additional cost to having more than 1 ad, and it also allows Google to optimize your campaign performance based on the best-performing ad.

To add more than 3 ads, create a new Smart campaign.

 
To quickly make more ad versions, click Create new ad after you’ve finished writing your ad.

Provide a great website experience

A customer clicked your ad. Now what? Make sure that once they get to your website, it’s easy to find what they came for. Think like a customer: choose a landing page that has all the information promised in the ad. If customers don’t find what they want, they’re more likely to leave.

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Admin icon Admin Icon.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click Notifications along the top to reach the "Notifications" page.
  4. Check if you have opted to receive customized help and performance suggestions for your account.
