Use sitelink extensions

To add more links to your ads, create sitelink extensions. Sitelink extensions can take people to specific pages on your site—your store hours, a specific product, or more. When someone clicks or taps on your links, they jump right to what they want. Sitelinks can encourage meaningful clicks, and can generate new business for you.

You can learn how to add sitelink extensions, by reading the instructions below.

Before you begin

Campaign types you can use: Sitelink extensions are compatible with campaigns on the Search Network.

Tips: When setting up your sitelink extensions, keep these best practices in mind:

  • Keep link text short. Short links mean that more links can show, so be sure to stay within limits.*
  • Create links that reflect your site. Look at your website's navigation bars for easy sitelink ideas.
  • Add descriptions. Descriptions for each link make your ad more helpful to people viewing your ad. They don’t reduce the number of links that can show.
If you don't have time to write descriptions for your sitelinks, Google Ads can automatically generate them for you, as long as you’re opted into dynamic ads sitelink extensions.
* Sitelink text is limited to 25 characters in most languages, or 12 characters in double-width languages (like Chinese, Japanese, and Korean).

Sitelinks at the ad group level

Before you create sitelink extensions at the ad group level, keep the following in mind:

  • By default, an ad group uses the sitelink extensions of the campaign it's part of.
  • If you create sitelinks for an ad group, they will override campaign-level sitelinks. You can also choose to show no sitelinks for an ad group.
  • To restore the default of using campaign-level sitelink extensions, simply remove ad-group level sitelinks and campaign-level sitelinks will return.

The new Google Ads experience is now the exclusive way for most users to manage their accounts. Note, automatic targeting is only available in the new Google Ads experience.

How to add sitelink extensions

  1. Choose the campaign or ad group you’d like to add sitelinks to, or stay at the "All campaigns" level to add sitelinks at the account level.
  2. Click the Ad extensions tab.
  3. Under “View,” select “Sitelink Extensions.”
  4. Select + Extension.
  5. You'll see all the sitelinks that are in this account.
    • To use an existing sitelink, click the sitelink.
    • To create a new sitelink, click New.
  6. Fill out the sitelink text and URL.
  7. Enter additional text about your link in the description fields (optional, but highly recommended).
  8. Your details may be eligible to show below the sitelink.
  9. Click Save to save your sitelink setting for your campaign.
  10. At the bottom of the campaign’s sitelink extension window next to “Show this extension on,” select the devices where you’d like the sitelinks in the campaign to appear. You can choose to show the sitelinks across All devices (this is the default setting), or specify Mobile devices only or Desktop and tablet devices only.
  11. Click Save.
Remember to create at least 2 - 4 sitelinks. Sitelinks won't be able to show with your ads until at least two sitelinks are created and attached to the account, or the campaign, or ad group that the ad is a part of.

How to edit sitelink extensions

  4. Click the sitelink you want to edit.
  5. You'll see all the sitelinks at this level. Find the specific sitelink you want to edit, and click the pencil icon next to it.
  6. Make the changes to the sitelink. The Description field is optional. When you fill out both lines of description, your sitelink may be eligible to show with these details.
  7. After you're done editing, click Save.
