Set a performance target

A performance target forecasts campaign group performance so you know whether you’re on track to meet specific measurable goals. If it looks like you're not on track, you can consider adjusting your campaign settings to improve performance.

For campaign groups, you can click the plus button in the "Performance targets" tab of a campaign group.

Before you begin

If you don’t know what performance targets are or how they work, read about performance targets first.

Instructions

Note: The instructions below are part of a new Google Ads user experience that will launch for all advertisers in 2024. If you’re still using the previous version of Google Ads, review the Quick reference map or use the Search bar in the top navigation panel of Google Ads to find the page you’re searching for.
  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Campaign groups.
  4. Click the plus button
  5. Click the name of the campaign group you want to add a performance target to.
  6. Click Add a Target.
  7. Choose the metric you want your performance target to focus on.
  8. Enter a date range for your performance target.
  9. Set your specific targets.
  10. Click Add a Target.
    Note:
You don't need to set targets if you're not sure about the specific values your campaign group can achieve. If you don't set targets, Google Ads shows current performance and a performance forecast for the campaign group instead of estimating whether you’re on track to meet specific numeric goals.
  11. Click Save.
