Remove or change your credit card

You must always have a primary payment method in your account to ensure there's always a way to automatically pay for your ads. You can change or remove your credit card as long as another payment method is linked to your account. This ensures your ads run seamlessly without any interruptions. If you want to stop your ads from running, you should pause your campaigns instead of removing your payment method.

Tip: Add a backup credit card

To avoid your ads being stopped due to a declined payment, we highly recommend setting up a backup payment method. If your primary payment method doesn't work for any reason, we'll charge your backup card so your ads can continue to run.

To make changes to your payment methods, you must have Admin or Edit Payment profile permission.

If your card issuer or bank is in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may need to complete an additional authentication process, such as a one-time code sent to your phone, to verify the ownership of your card. Your card issuer or bank may require this extra verification when you make a payment, add a new credit or debit card, or at the card issuer or bank’s discretion.

Google complies with the new security requirements imposed on banks and payment processors by the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) in the EEA. If you have any questions, contact your card issuer or bank directly.
