You can use your phone outside the US after you activate your Google Fi account and use Google Fi in the US (territories not included). You don't have to change your phone's settings.
Important: Google Fi’s Terms of Service require you to activate and use Google Fi service mainly in the United States. If you try to activate Google Fi abroad or mostly use Google Fi service internationally, we might suspend your international capabilities. Learn about Google Fi’s Term of Service.
You can reactivate your plan while abroad. For example, you could switch devices or perform a factory reset.
Calls over Wi-Fi are available for phones designed for Google Fi and most phones compatible with Google Fi.

Use Google Fi internationally
You can use your phone in over 200 destinations. For international use:
- Cellular calls are $0.20 per minute.
- Texts are included.
- You can make calls over Wi-Fi. The rates for calling over Wi-Fi internationally depend on the country or region you call. For specific rates, go to Google Voice calling rates.
- Calls between the US, Canada, and Mexico at no additional cost.
Before traveling abroad, check whether the country or region you plan to visit blocks Wi-Fi calls.
If you plan to stay abroad for an extended time, we recommend you use a local carrier until you can return to the US. We grant exceptions to military and State Department employees who serve abroad.
Important: In "Manage Plan," you must turn on the desired International Features for your services to work.

If Wi-Fi and cellular are both available, Google Fi routes your call over whichever gives you the best experience. If you have a strong cellular connection of LTE or greater, then Google Fi may send the call over the internet to give you the best experience.
To use Wi-Fi only, turn on Airplane mode and Wi-Fi. Your phone won't connect to cellular while in Airplane mode. Make sure to turn off Airplane mode when you're not on Wi-Fi anymore.
