How to join

1. Buy a phone subscription

Google Fi plan owners can join the phone subscription program through the Fi app or Google Fi website on the "Shop" tab, in the account sign up flow, or at fi.google.com/about/phone-subscription.

Important: Group plan members can’t join the subscription program themselves. If you're a group plan member who wants to join, reach out to your group plan owner.

If you already purchased Pixel 6a from Google Fi website, learn more about your options to transfer.

When you join the subscription program, you can trade in a phone for Fi bill credit. Learn more about trade in.

Savings from the subscription program can't be combined with other phone deals.

2. Pass credit check

To qualify for the subscription program, you need to pass a credit check. Learn more about the credit check process.

3. Activate the phone

Within 30 days of shipment, activate voice and text services on the phone on the same Google Fi account used to purchase the phone. This can be done by the purchaser or a member of their group plan.

If the phone isn’t activated within 30 days of shipment, we charge the purchaser for the full value of the phone.

4. Stay active on Google Fi

For the user who purchased the subscription, keep Fi service active. If you're on an individual plan, keep Fi service active for yourself. If you're a group owner, keep the service active for the subscriber who was assigned the Pixel 6a subscription.
Important: If the phone isn’t activated or the assigned subscriber leaves the plan, you’re charged the cancelation payout amount.

Transfer into the program

Important: If you already have Pixel Pass, you can’t join the Fi subscription program.

  2. Sign in to your account.

Tip: If you change your mind after you cancel your subscription, until your next billing date, you can reinstate your subscription in the same location in your account.

Transfer subscription

Within 30 days of purchase, if you’re the owner of a group plan, you can transfer your subscription to another member of your plan.

After the 30-day window, you can’t transfer a subscription to another group or individual.

Cancel or pause your Fi service

Cancel Fi service

If Fi service is cancelled, the cancellation impacts subscription eligibility.

Plan owner cancels service

If a plan owner cancels Fi service, we charge the remaining amount owed for all active subscription phones on their account at the regular price. Group members can transfer their phone numbers to a new provider or their own Google Fi plan.

Group plan member cancels service

If a group plan member cancels service, the number of active lines on the account may fall below the number of subscriptions. If this happens, we notify the group plan owner. If not corrected, the monthly phone charge increases to the standard financing rate.

Pause Fi service

You can temporarily pause your Fi service. While your service is temporarily on hold, you're still charged for monthly phone subscription program payments. If you repeatedly pause Fi, you violate our Terms of Service.

Upgrade your phone

How upgrade works

After 2 years of monthly payments, you fully own your phone. At that time, you can decide if you want to stay in the program and receive the next device in the subscription program as an upgrade. If you don't upgrade, your monthly payment reduces to device protection only.

If you want to upgrade sooner than 2 years, you must cancel and pay the remainder of your subscription equal to the cancelation payout. After we receive your payment, you can re-subscribe by ordering a new phone. The new device starts another 2-year term.

  1. Go to fi.google.com.
  2. Select the Pixel 6a.
  3. Scroll to “Phone subscription.”
  4. Click Order now.
  5. Customize your Pixel 6a.
  6. Complete checkout.

Find when you’re eligible for your phone upgrade

  1. Open the Google Fi website or Google Fi app .
  2. Select Account.
  3. Under “Devices,” select the subscription phone.
  4. You find “Your phone is eligible for upgrade in {X} months (as of {Y} month).”
