Set up notifications

This page is for teachers. Students go here.

You can receive an email and mobile notification from Classroom whenever:

  • A student submits work a second time, after you've returned it to the student.
  • A student sends you a private note.
  • A student submits work after the due date.
  • A teacher invites you to teach a course as an additional teacher.
  • Someone comments on your post.
  • Someone mentions you in a post or comment.

On your mobile device, you can specify which notifications you want to receive.

Customize your notifications

By default, notifications are enabled. If you have any unread notifications, you’ll see a red circle on the app Menu Menu.

  1. Tap Classroom Classroom.
  2. At the top, tap Menu Menu.

  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.

  4. (Optional) To turn off email notifications, at Send email notifications, tap Turn off Turn off.
  5. (Optional) To have your device vibrate when you receive a notification, tap Vibration.
  6. (Optional) To have your device make a sound when you receive a notification, tap Sound.
  7. To turn any notification on or off, tap it.

    Granular notfications

  8. (Optional) To turn off all device notifications, at Device notifications, tap Turn off Turn off.

Note: To turn any notification on or off, you can tap the name of the notification or the icon next to it. For example, to turn off comments on your post, tap Comments on your posts or Turn off Turn off.

View your notifications
  1. Tap Classroom Classroom.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Notifications.

    The number in the red circle indicates the number of unread notifications.

    Tap Notifications

  3. (Optional) To see only unread notifications, tap All and then Unread.
  4. (Optional) To see all notifications, tap Unread and then All.
  5. To delete a notification, swipe the notification across the screen.
