Turn notifications on or off

This article is for teachers and students. Guardians, go to About guardian email summaries. 

By default, you get email notifications for some activities, such as when someone comments on your post or your teacher returns work. Students and teachers can change their notification settings at any time. If you use Classroom on a mobile device, you need to update the settings on your device as well.

Open all  |  Close all

Turn email notifications on or off

You can decide if you want to get email notifications about updates to your classes. 

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. At the top, tap Menu "".

    Tap Menu

  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.

    Tap Settings

  4. Tap Notifications.

  5. Next to Email notifications,  tap the switch Off "" or On "".

Turn device notifications on or off

You can decide if your iPhone or iPad can notify you of updates from your classes.

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. At the top, tap Menu "".

  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.

  4. Tap Notifications.

  5. Next to Device notifications, tap Enabled or Disabled.

  6. In your iPhone or iPad settings, tap Notifications and tap the switch Off "" or On ""

Customize device notifications

You can choose the notifications that you get for all of your classes on your device. For example, you can turn off invitation notifications for all classes but keep assignment notifications on.

  1. Tap Classroom "".

  2. At the top, tap Menu "".

  3. Scroll down and tap Settingsand thenNotifications.

    Tap Settings

  4. Make sure that Device notifications is Enabled.

    See the instructions above to Turn device notifications on or off.

  5. Under Device notifications, next to each notification that you want to get, tap the switch On "".

    Refer to the tables below for a description of each notification.

Teacher notifications

Notification Description
Comments on your posts Someone comments on your post.
Comments that mention you Someone mentions you in a post or comment.
Private comments on work A student sends you a private comment.
Late submissions of student work A student submits work after the due date.
Resubmissions of student work A student resubmits work.
Invitations to co-teach classes A teacher invites you to teach a course as a co-teacher.
Scheduled post published or failed A scheduled post published or failed to post.
 

Student notifications

Notification Description
Comments on your posts Someone comments on your post.
Comments that mention you Someone mentions you in a post or comment.
Private comments on work A teacher sends you a private comment.
Work and other posts from teachers A teacher creates an assignment, question, or announcement.
Returned work and grades from your teachers A teacher grades or returns work.
Invitations to join classes as a student A teacher invites you to a new class.
Due-date reminders for your work You have unsubmitted work that's due within 24 hours.
Turn all notifications on or off for a class

You can choose to get notifications for specific classes. For example, you can turn off notifications for your Math class and still get notifications for your other classes.

  1. Tap Classroom ""
  2. At the top, tap Menu "".
    Tap Menu
  3. Scroll down and tap Settingsand thenNotificationsand thenClass notifications.
  4. Next to the class name, tap the switch On "" or Off "".
Read notifications

You can read notifications in your email program or in your device's notification center.
