docs.google.com/gview not reliably returning PDF documents

When requesting a PDF, it doesn't seem to matter which PDF, about 1 of 5 times I receive a 204 response but no PDF, and the response contains 0 bytes.

for example:

It will load a few times correctly and then randomly not load anything at all. Let me know if you need anything else to help track down the issue!

I have the same problem with .DOCX files. Sometimes it works, sometimes no. I also have a lot of 204 responses. It is probably bug with session, because when I use incognito mode it is always displayed. Your Developers Team could check it here:

When you run it a few times you will see that file preview is blank very often.

Same issue here. Getting the 204 (non) result when loading both pdf and docx files, from different hosts.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Google Docs Help Forum.

I notice all of you concerned about the non-returning of .PDF document in docs.google.com/gview. Just wanted to let you know that this service is deprecated for now. That being said, if you're looking to implement Google services into their website, I'd recommend visiting the Google Apps Script online documentation for Developers.

Meanwhile, try leaving feedback by following these steps:

  1. Open the file where you've noticed the bug or technical issue.

  2. Click the Help menu.

  3. Click Report a problem.

  4. Complete the questionnaire.

The product team reviews this feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product over time.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Jake
