Add third-party verification to your creatives

To provide a safeguard against serving ads on the wrong sites, you can wrap your creatives with technology from third-party verification services, which can prevent your ads from accidentally serving in the wrong media.

Please note, if you use a verification service to report on where your ads serve, you must remove anonymous inventory from your line items.

Display creatives

To add verification to display creatives, you'll first upload creatives to either Campaign Manager or Display & Video 360 to generate a tag. Next, you'll send the tag to your third-party verification service, who'll send you back a wrapped tag. You'll then replace the original Display & Video 360 tag with the wrapped tag.

Supported services

Display & Video 360 currently supports third-party verification for display creatives via Integral Ad Science, DoubleVerify, and Moat, although most other post-bid third-party verification services should work. To check if another verification service is supported, please reach out to your account manager.

To save time, you can wrap multiple tags at once.

Add verification to display creatives

Creatives synced from Campaign Manager

If you need to wrap more than one creative at once, you can export the tags to a spreadsheet, then upload the spreadsheet to wrap all of the tags at the same time. Learn more about bulk tag wrapping

Wrapping Campaign Manager-hosted creatives will prevent Display & Video 360 cost data from syncing over to Campaign Manager.
  1. Open an advertiser and click Creatives in the left menu.

  2. Open the display creative you want to wrap with a verification tag.

  3. Expand the Additional details section, then select Use custom tag wrapper.

  4. Copy the creative's tag in the text box that appears, then click Cancel or deselect Use custom tag wrapper to avoid making changes to the creative. Send the entire code snippet to your verification service to have the tag wrapped, then wait for the verification service to return the wrapped tag.

  5. Once the verification service sends you the wrapped tag, return to the creative's details page in Display & Video 360. Expand the Additional details section, then select Use custom tag wrapper again.

In the text box, select all of the existing tag code and delete it, then paste the code from the verification service into the text box. Finally, save your creative.

Now your creative is wrapped with a third-party verification tag. Use this creative as you normally would, and the creative will automatically use the third-party verification service whenever this creative is served.

Note: You won't be able to preview the tag externally until you re-traffic the wrapped creative tag in step 5.

Creatives hosted by a third-party

To save time, wrap your third-party tags before uploading them into Display & Video 360. Otherwise, follow these steps to wrap an already uploaded third-party hosted creative with tags from a third-party verification service.

  1. Open an advertiser, and click Creatives in the left menu.

  2. Open the display creative you want to wrap with a verification tag.

  3. In the Third-party tag text box, copy the entire creative tag, and send this entire code snippet to your verification service to have the tag wrapped, then wait for the verification service to return your wrapped tag.

  4. Once the verification service sends you the wrapped tag, return to the creative's details page in Display & Video 360 again. In the Third-party tag text box, select all of the existing tag code and delete it, then paste the code from the verification service into the text box. Finally, click Test tag to test the creative.

  5. When you're done testing, save your changes.

Now your creative is wrapped with a third-party verification tag. Use this creative as you normally would, and the creative will automatically use the third-party verification service whenever this creative is served.

Using Campaign Manager tracking placements with third-party creatives
If your Display & Video 360 advertiser configuration is "Campaign Manager and third-party ad servers", and you want to use a Campaign Manager tracking placement to track impressions and clicks for a third-party creative, make sure there's only one creative assigned to the tracking placement in Campaign Manager. Otherwise, there's no way to set which creative will be tracked against.

Video creatives

To add verification to video creatives, you'll first upload creatives to either Campaign Manager or Display & Video 360. Because video creatives serve via a VAST URL, there's no tag to wrap. Instead, you'll request a verification-wrapped VAST URL with the added macro ${DC_VAST_URL} from your third-party verification service. You'll then add the wrapped URL to the creative in Display & Video 360.

Supported services

Currently only the following third-party verification providers are approved for serving:

  • DoubleVerify
  • Integral Ad Science

If you attempt to use a wrapper from an unapproved provider, you'll see an error. Ask your provider to contact Display & Video 360 support to learn how to get approved.
