Generate ad tags for DFP Video
Video ad tags contain all the information required for a video ad request, including information about the master video ad and optional companion ads.
To generate ad tags for DFP Video ad units:
- Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
- Click Inventory Ad units.
- Locate and click your DFP Video ad unit.
- Click Generate tags.
Complete the 3-step process and click Continue after each step.
You can currently generate Google Publisher Tags (GPT).
Tag options Define options or targeting parameters to be included in the tag. You can learn more about the required and custom parameters for GPT ad tags.
If you are creating an ad tag for live stream video, select the "Enable for live traffic" option to ensure the ability to handle heavy live stream traffic volumes, where all ad breaks are delivered at the same time.
Tag results Use the information provided in this section to test and ensure your tag is set up correctly.

- Video master tag: the URL needed to get video ads for this ad unit. You can learn about the components of the master ad tag URL.
<BODY>element of the page to specify where the companion ad appears.
Some DFP Video tags may include
[placeholder]values in the tag results. These values need to be dynamically populated by your video player before making the ad request. Developers should simply replace
[placeholder]with the appropriate values.
For example, if you've selected "Content targeting" when generating your ad tag, the player should replace
cmsid=[placeholder]&vid=[placeholder]with the cmsid and vid parameters assigned to their unique numbers identifying the content source and particular piece of video content.Live stream ad tags must contain
/livein their path. If you selected the "Enable for live traffic" option using the ad tag generator, it is automatically added.
- Click Done.
If you are not using the Google IMA SDK: Be aware that the tag contains the following macros, for which you'll need to insert the appropriate information. (If you're using the Google IMA SDK, the SDK automatically inserts the information for these macros.)
url=[referrer_url]: URL of the page where the ad will appear
correlator=[timestamp]: typically the timestamp of the page view
