Mobile application overview

Create a powerful, customized mobile app, to enhance your visitors’ experience, or allow people to enjoy your content wherever they are. No software development required!

You can use the content you’ve already uploaded, or add new content specifically for the app. Once the app is published, you can add new items and exhibits whenever you want, and all users will automatically get the new content.

The app works on phones and tablets running Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or later versions.

We are currently working with a limited set of cultural institutions to develop this publishing option. It is therefore not available in all accounts.

Before you start to create a mobile application, make sure you have uploaded and published some items and created at least one exhibit. We also strongly recommend that you download and familiarize yourself with the Palazzo Madama app as an example. You may also like to read our blog post, “Bringing the museum to your mobile”.

Then, to create and publish an app, you will follow four key steps:

  1. Create & customize an app
Choose a name for your app, select one of our themes or upload your own graphics and logo to best represent your brand.
  2. Publish exhibits to your app
You can publish any exhibit to the mobile app, or create exhibits specifically for it. Creating exhibits that guide visitors around your institution work particularly well in the mobile app.
  3. Install & preview your app
Before working on your exhibits, retrieve the app file immediately via email and install it on your mobile device, to see how it looks.
  4. Distribute via Google Play
Create a Google Play Developer account and begin to distribute your app in a few simple steps.

Follow this guide for information and tips on each part of the process.
