If you're experiencing any of the following issues, try the troubleshooting steps below:

  • The Google Home app can't find your Google Nest or Home speaker, display or Cast device(s) when attempting to set up your device.
  • Your Cast device isn't being displayed as an available device when casting from an app.

Step 1. Make sure that local network access is enabled 

  1. On your iOS device’s home screen (iOS 14 or later), tap Settings
  2. Tap Privacy and then Local network. You’ll find a list of apps.
  3. Turn on local network access for the app(s) that you would like to allow network access. This will allow permissions for your device to discover Cast-enabled devices.

Step 2. Complete the initial checklist

Make sure that your device is:

  1. Nearby (within 6 metres).
  2. Plugged into a wall socket.
  3. Powered on. The LED light on the side or back of the device will be white.

Step 3. Verify settings 

Turn on location services and enable location permissions for the Google Home app Google Home app:

  1. Open your device's Settings .
  2. Tap Location and then Turn on Location On.
  3. Tap Apps and then Home app and then Permissions.
  4. Turn onLocationOn.

Connect to your Chromecast:

  1. Open your device's Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast, TV or speaker that works with Google Cast, speaker or display, or TV or speaker with the Assistant. Look for something like GoogleHomeXXXX or ChromecastXXXX.
  4. Navigate back to the Google Home app.

Step 4. Complete the setup steps for your device

  1. Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra
  2. Chromecast Audio
  3. Google Nest or Home speaker or display
  4. TV that works with Google Cast
  5. Speaker that works with Google Cast
