Google Cast-enabled apps: How to cast video to your TV

​Casting to your TV is a way to enjoy your favourite apps optimised for the big screen. You can use your mobile device or tablet as a remote and control everything from playback to volume via the Google Home app. 

Before you begin casting

  1. Connect your mobile device, tablet or computer to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. The mobile device, tablet or computer that you're using to cast must be on the same Wi-Fi network your Chromecast or TV that works with Google Cast
  3. You must be running the latest version of the Google Cast-enabled app. You can always double-check that you're on the latest version by visiting the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and checking for app updates.

Cast to your TV with Google Cast-enabled apps

  1. Make sure that the mobile device, tablet or computer that you're using to cast is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV that works with Cast. 
  2. Open a Cast-enabled app
  3. Tap the cast button Inactive cast extension .
    • Note: The cast button isn't located in the same place across all Cast-enabled apps.
  4. Tap the device to which you'd like to cast.
  5. When you're connected, the cast button will turn solid, letting you know that you're connected.
  6. You can now cast videos, movies and TV shows directly to your TV.
  7. To stop casting, tap the cast button and then Disconnect.

Cast content to your TV from iOS 13 devices using Google Cast-enabled apps 

  1. The mobile device, tablet or computer that you're using to cast must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast or TV that works with Cast. 
  2. Open a Cast-enabled app
  3. If it requires location permissions, tap Yes.
    1. Some Cast-enabled apps may request location permissions and may not be able to cast if location permissions are not granted.
  4. In the Cast-enabled app, tap the cast button Inactive cast extension .
    1. The cast button isn't located in the same place on all Cast-enabled apps.
  5. Tap the device to which you'd like to cast.
  6. If you're unable to cast, you may need to wait for the Cast-enabled app to release a new version to support cast on iOS devices running iOS 13.

Please note that casting might also be enabled from your laptop on the websites of Cast-enabled apps. To learn more, visit Cast-enabled site vs casting a tab. In order to cast from Chrome, please make sure that you have the cast button installed on your Chrome Browser.

If your home has two or more isolated networks available, your Android device may automatically switch between networks depending on signal strength. This could affect whether or not you see the cast button in your applications.

To avoid automatic switching, Android users can go to the device's Wi-Fi settings and forget 'Network B' to ensure that the Android device is connected to the same 'Network A' as the Chromecast or TV with Chromecast Built-In.
