We're aware of an emerging issue impacting Chromecast 2nd gen and Chromecast Audio devices and are working on a fix. Do not factory reset your device - we will keep you all updated when the fix rolls out. If you have already factory reset your device, we will provide instructions to set your device back up as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Troubleshoot Android recovery screen

If your screen shows the message “Your system or an application is having issues,” you can usually recover by restarting your Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer (4K). If the problem continues, you’ll need to factory reset your Google streaming device.

What to do

Google TV Streamer (4K)

With the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote

  1. At the top right of your TV screen, select your profile and then All settings .
  2. Select System and then About and then Factory Reset.

From the Google TV Streamer device

  1. While the device is plugged into the TV and powered on, press and hold the button for 10-12 seconds on the back of the device. The LED should start to blink yellow .
  2. When the LED light turns solid white, release the button, and the device should then reset.

Chromecast with Google TV

Use the Chromecast dongle that’s inserted into an HDMI port on your TV or other display device. You won’t be able to use the Chromecast Voice Remote.

  1. Find the recovery options near the bottom of the screen.
    • To cycle through the recovery options, press the button on the back of your Chromecast.
    • To select an option, press and hold the button for 3 seconds.
  2. Select Try again. This option restarts your Chromecast and may resolve the problem.
  3. If your Chromecast returns to this recovery screen after the restart, select
    Factory Data Reset.
