Manage Chrome browser in Workspace ONE (Windows and Mac)

You can use VMware Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) on Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac to distribute Chrome browser to your users and set some policies.

Important: Google does not provide support for any VMware issues. For help, contact VMware.

Use Workspace ONE on Windows

  1. Download the Chrome bundle for Windows 64-bit or 32-bit
  2. Open the Workspace ONE UEM.
  3. On the left, click Apps & Books and then Native and then Add Application.
  4. Upload GoogleChromeStandaloneEnterprise.msi and click Save
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Make sure the Supported Processor Architecture flag matches the architecture of the MSI you downloaded.
  7. (Optional) To install Chrome browser at the user or device level, click Deployment Options and specify rights needed, retry counts, install commands, and exit codes. You can also include a script to run with the installation to make changes using the registry. The script supports Jscript, VBscript, and Powershell. You can use Powershell to set registry key settings for the policies that you want.
  8. Click Save & Assign.

After installation, you can configure registry settings using Workspace ONE. You can configure policies using the Group Policy Management Editor or Chrome browser Cloud Management.

Use Workspace ONE on Mac

You can use Munki to include Bash, Shell, and Python scripts to run before or after the installation. You can also potentially set policies. For details, see GitHub.

  1. Download Chrome browser for Mac.
  2. Open the Workspace ONE UEM.
  3. On the left, click Apps & Books and then Native and then Add Application.
  4. Upload GoogleChrome.pkg and click Save.
  5. For deployment type, select Expedited delivery.
Note: Google does not support Full software management because the app’s package ID is modified. If you decide to select Full software management, follow the on-screen prompts to generate a manifest file and upload it to the Workspace ONE UEM console.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to save the app to the Workspace ONE UEM console and assign it to users and groups.

After installation, you can configure policies using plists or Chrome Browser Cloud Management.
