To reply to a message in Google Chat, you can enter text or, if available, select a suggestion. Suggestions are based on the content of the message you receive.
Reply to a chat message
- Go to Google Chat or your Gmail account.
- Open a chat message.
- Below the message, click the reply area.
- Enter your message or select a suggestion.
- You can customize a suggested message before you send it.
- Press Return or click Send

Quote a message in your reply
- On your computer, go to Google Chat or your Gmail account.
- Open a chat message.
- Hover over the message.
- From the available message actions, click Quote in reply
.
- Enter your message or select a suggestion.
- You can customize a suggested message before you send it.
- Press Return or click Send
.
Tips:
- When you quote content in a reply, that quoted content displays the original message at that time. If the original message gets deleted or edited, the quoted content doesn't get updated in the reply.

Turn off suggestions in Chat
- Go to Google Chat or your Gmail account.
- At the top right, click Settings
Settings.
- Under "Smart Reply," uncheck the box.

- To add a person to the conversation or mention them: Type
, then enter a name.
- To add emojis to your message: Click Emoji

- To share files from your device: Click Upload file

- Everyone in a space can find shared files.
- To share files from Google Drive: Click Add Google Drive file
