Mute conversations in Google Chat

If you don’t want to get notifications for a specific conversation in Chat, you can mute it. When you mute a conversation, the conversation isn’t:

  • Highlighted in your list of conversations
  • Moved to the top of your list of conversations
  • Shown in Home

A badge still shows next to conversations where someone mentions you. Learn more about mentions in Chat.

Mute or unmute a conversation

  1. On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
  2. In your conversation list, on the right of a conversation, click More options and then Mute or Unmute.
