How to re-claim my business listing when it's been claimed by someone else

Hi,

I need to regain ownership of my listing but don't know who the current listing owner is. Google tells me his/her email starts with "ar.....@gmail.com" when I go through the steps of re-claiming the listing but I cannot figure out who that is.

Is there a way to contact Google to kick out current owner as I can easily prove I am the legitimate owner of the business.

Cheers,

When the current owner doesn't respond to your request you can wait 7 days and try to claim the listing yourself and take ownership. See Google's guidelines here: http://prntscr.com/q5po8g.

Hope this helps several of the comments from this thread.

Hello lanjelot,

If a Google My Business listing has already been verified and you're authorized to manage the listing, you can request ownership from the current listing owner.
To request ownership of a storefront business from the current listing owner:
  1. Go to business.google.com/add
  2. Enter the name and address of your business, then select it from the search results.
  3. Click Continue. You'll see a message indicating that someone else verified the listing. Otherwise, you can claim and verify the listing yourself.
  4. Click Request access and fill out the form.
  5. Click Submit. The current listing owner will receive an email asking them to get in touch with you, and you’ll receive a confirmation email.

HI @Keyserholiday,

You seem to be the person who is trying to assist people the most, so I will direct this at you.

My story is the same as almost everyone else on this thread and the two recommended answers don't actually answer the problem.

My business listing on GMB has been claimed by an ex-employee with a @gmail.com account that we and they no longer have access to. I have completed the request for ownership 4 times now the last time was Sept 20th, i am still to receive the "Claim" link after the seven day period.

I have authorised my connection to the company via e-mail & phone and still can't change vital information on the listing.

This is not only a poor representation of the business for us it is also a poor user experience for Google as the information they are showing is incorrect.

I understand that Google need to be certain that that they aren't just randomly changing ownership of businesses but they should also have a process of proving the current owners are valid and this is very lacking.

I also understand that you will most likely not be able to help in this matter as you are only a volunteer but Google offers no assistance at all in regards to this so, this is the only place to air these grievances and hopefully find a resolution but, as this issue has been going on for over a year it doesn't seem as though we will find one of those very soon!

Anyway, any assistance you can offer will be gratefully received, should it lead to a suitable resolution.

Thanks

Hey Saks Apprenticeships, have you created a new email account using your domain name? I recommend that you add that email address to Google Analytics and Google Search Console as well. It may help with the process. Try one more time by adding the listing in a new account using the new email address.

This process works, I have done it several times myself without any issue.

Hey @Khalil Yasin your comment is being removed as it not related to this discussion.

Please create a new thread with the following information:
Business
name
and a full description of the situation and do you have ownership access of the listing.

Hey Keyserholiday

I will give that a go.

However the e-mail address I am using, to try and gain ownership with, is already linked to both Search Console and Analytics and is a Gmail Account.

I will try with a domain account and see if that works at all.

I would suggest that, should this work, it is a very complicated solution as many business owners don't have the knowledge to do such things and some don't have domain names to set up new accounts with.

There should definitely be a much easier way to claim what is rightfully yours especially when it could be causing such detriment to a business.

I will return in 7 days to let you know if this has worked.

Thanks

I already requested ownership and the person that stole my listing sent back that they refused to give me back ownership.  So now what?

Hey Keyserholiday,

So I have waited the prescribed 7 days from requesting the change of ownership with an e-mail address on the associated domain name. The address is linked with GA and GSC but I am still only getting the...

You requested to manage Saks Apprenticeships on Monday, 26 October 2020. You may still update information about this business by suggesting an edit.

...message and no offer to claim the listing or allowing us to verify my affiliation with the business.

I have contacted Google through the live chat, hopefully they will be able to help.

So, after the first attempt on live chat failed, they sent me an e-mail with the same process as every time and ended the chat, I tried again and got through to someone who tried to send the same info, this time on a web page.

After letting him know i had tried this multiple times and letting him know the last time was over 7 days ago he disappeared for a few minutes, came back and asked if I was okay sharing some info with the current owner and said they would follow it up and get back to me in 3 days.

So we wait again!

But at least it wasn't the same process over and over again and there was some positive movement, just have to see if it works.

I requested access and waited the 7 days and had a postcard sent out. When I received the postcard with the code, the My business page shows it as a Duplicate, and wants to start all over. This is obscene!.

I'm getting repeated emails related to the issue that began back in September 2020, where someone requests ownership of my verified listing.  They exploit the Google Business process for requesting ownership, and I get an apparently legit email from Google saying, "Someone has requested ownership of [my business] on Google My Business."  All of my business listings are VERIFIED.

I have been ignoring these emails, but I'm concerned that this scammer may simply wait 7 days and try to take ownership, as described in Google's guidelines:  http://prntscr.com/q5po8g

I only have email notifications; there is no corresponding notice of this request in my Google Business account.

What is the "correct" way to address this issue?

Someone requested access to my business but I ignored them assuming it was a scam but am worried they will gain access since I ignored it.  What do I do now?
