[UA→GA4] Event goals [Legacy]

You are viewing a legacy article about Universal Analytics. Learn more about Google Analytics 4 replacing Universal Analytics.
Use the goals migration tool to automatically replicate most event and destination goals from your Universal Analytics property in your new Google Analytics 4 property.

In Universal Analytics an event goal is sent when the user triggers the specified event. If you've implemented connected site tags using the GA4 setup assistant or dual tagged your site using gtag.js, the category, action, and label values from your Universal Analytics events are automatically translated to Google Analytics 4 events and parameters.

Learn more about sending events to both your Universal Analytics and GA4 properties.

Mark translated events as key events in GA4

A Universal Analytics event sent to GA4 using connected site tags or dual tagging uses that event's action label as the event_name parameter. To mark this event as a key events:

  1. In Admin, under Data display, click Events.
  2. Under Existing events, browse or search for the translated event name.
  3. On the right, turn on Mark as key events.
