DoubleClick Ad Exchange: Inventory Management, Tags

Add a new Ad Exchange tag

This procedure only applies to traffic sent directly from the page of a third-party ad server. DFP no longer relies on Ad Exchange inventory tags for targeting. Learn best practices for trafficking Ad Exchange in DFP
  1. Click the "Inventory" tab. The “Tags” page loads.
    To access this feature from DFP instead of Ad Exchange, click Inventory and then Ad Exchange inventory and then Tags.
  2. Click + New tag. The “New tag” prompt window opens.
  3. Enter a meaningful name that clearly identifies the tag, including ad size and ad location on your site.
    For example, “Sundance ROS 300x250” means the inventory available is for an ad size of 300x250 for run-of-site on the Sundance site.
  4. (Optional) To create a nested tag, select the “Nested tag under” checkbox.
    When you decide to nest a tag, the tag you are currently creating appears under the tag [name] you select from the “Nested tag under” drop-down. How does this work with rules? If you have tag B nested under tag A, rules targeting tag A also apply to tag B.
  5. (Optional) To assign a specific ID to your tag, enter the value in the “Specify ID manually” field. This ID value cannot be changed once the tag has been saved, therefore you are unable to edit this ID.

    Sample code snippet of a nested tag:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4397449556666685";/*TEST*/
    google_ad_slot = "6129968145/TestPS";
    google_ad_width = 336;
    google_ad_height = 280;
    //-->
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
    </script>
  6. From the ad code drop-down, select an ad size. The ad code automatically populates when an ad size is selected.
  7. Click Save. A tag ID (e.g., 835477075) is automatically assigned to the tag. The ad code information is populated after the tag is saved. In this example, the 336x280 Large Rectangle was chosen from the ad code drop-down.

    Sample code snippet:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
google_ad_client = "TODO"; /* TestTag */
google_ad_slot = "835477075/TESTPS";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>

Copy and paste the generated code into your third-party ad serving system (make sure it complies with the Ad Exchange program policies). DFP no longer requires any copy and paste of tags to work.

IMPORTANT: Any tag can be any size, tags do not store an associated size. A request can also have no Tag ID (only the publisher code and size.)

Edit an existing Ad Exchange tag

  1. To edit a tag’s ad code, from the “Tags” list page, click the tag name.
    To edit ad code for multiple tags, from the “Tags” list page, select the tags you want to update. At the top of the page, click Edit. The “Edit tags” prompt opens to display the multiple code snippets (scroll to see the full list of codes) for the tags you chose.

  2. (Optional) Change your tag name, if desired.
  3. To update your ad code(s), from the ad code drop-down, select a new ad size. The ad code automatically populates when an ad size is selected.
  4. Click Save. The code snippet can be pasted into any website or webpage as long as it complies with Ad Exchange program policies. From the “Tags” list page, you can delete a tag. Click the X to the right of the tag. To reactivate the tag, click the undo arrow.
Nested tags cannot be edited or deleted.
