Block an ad from the Ad Details window

Ad overlays provide access to the "Ad Details" window which enables you to block ads as you view your site. When you see an ad that isn’t suitable for your audience, you can take action immediately without any need to visit your account to investigate which ad or URL to block.

Keep in mind that blocking any ad will lower your potential earnings, as it reduces competition for your ad space by removing advertiser bids from the auction. We suggest blocking only those ads that you feel are unsuitable for your users.

The "Ad Details" window provides the following blocking options:

Block by URL

To prevent ads from a specific URL from showing on your site:

  1. On your site, click the overlay of the ad whose URL you want to block. The “Google Publisher Toolbar - Ad Details” window loads.
  2. Under the ad preview, click the drop-down and select Block ads for www.example.com. Once the block has been activated, the ad displays a red Blocked banner.
Blocked URLs are added to your URL filter list.

Block by ad

If you've not already done so, you'll need to enable the Ad Review Center before you can block individual ads. The Ad Review Center will be enabled for your account within one hour.

To prevent a specific ad that you've seen on your site from showing:

  1. On your site, click the overlay of the ad you want to block. The “Google Publisher Toolbar - Ad Details” window loads.
  2. Under the ad preview, click the drop-down and select Block this ad. Once the block has been activated, the ad displays a red Blocked banner.
You'll see the blocked ad next time you visit the Blocked ads tab in the Ad Review Center.

Block by ad network

To prevent ads from a Google certified ad network from showing on your site:

  1. On your site, click the overlay of the ad whose ad network you want to block. The “Google Publisher Toolbar - Ad Details” window loads.
  2. Below the ad preview, click the drop-down and select Block ads from Example Ad Network. Once the block has been activated, the ad displays a red Blocked banner.
You'll see the blocked ad network next time you visit the Allow & block ads tab and click Ad networks.
