Allow and block ads

Block ads by sensitive category

To prevent ads from certain sensitive categories from appearing on your site, block them by updating the "Sensitive ad categories" setting in your account. If you filter an ad category through category filtering, it will block ads of all targeting types and formats. You can block sensitive categories at the product level or at the site level.

Right now, we support blocking for a limited set of languages, regardless of the language of the site.

Before making the decision to block a sensitive category, and to get a better idea of the types of ads that fall under a certain sensitive category, you have the opportunity to review ads that have already served. There is a direct link from the categories blocking section to the Ad review center. Based on this preview, you can make more informed decisions on whether you want to block a certain ad, or block an entire category.

Block at the site level

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Visit the Allow & block ads tab.
  3. In the sidebar, make sure “Content” is selected.
  4. Under Content, select the domain or subdomain that you want to set the block on.
If your site is not listed, you can add it using the site management feature.
  5. In the horizontal bar across the top of the page, click the Sensitive categories tab.
  6. Use the controls on the page to allow or block categories. Changes are automatically saved on selection.

Block at the product level

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Visit the Allow & block ads tab.
  3. In the sidebar, select your product. For example, select “Content” for AdSense for content.
  4. In the horizontal bar across the top of the page, click the Sensitive categories tab.
  5. Use the controls on the page to allow or block categories. Changes are automatically saved on selection.
The total percentage of ad impressions shown on your "Sensitive categories" page might be greater than or less than 100% as ads may be classified in multiple categories, or not classified in any category at all.
