Learn more about the new AdMob rewarded ads

Create a rewarded video ad unit

AdMob (newest version)

Rewarded video ad units enable users to watch videos to earn in-app rewards, such as coins, extra lives, or points. You can set different rewards for different ad units, and specify the reward values and items users will receive.

Rewarded video ad units can only show rewarded video ads. Videos should be no longer than 60 seconds.

 

AdMob rewarded video ad policies

When you implement rewarded video ad units in your apps, be sure to review the AdMob help center rewarded inventory policy section.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click Apps in the sidebar.
  3. Select the name of the app you're creating this ad unit for. If you don't see it in the list of recent apps, you can click Add app to add a new app or click View all apps to search a list of all of the apps you've added to AdMob.
  4. Click Ad units in the sidebar.
  5. Click Add ad unit.
  6. Click Select for the Rewarded video ad format.
  7. Complete the settings for this ad unit:
    1. Ad type: Rewarded video ad units are limited to video ads only. Checked by default.
    2. Reward amount: Enter the number of reward items the user will receive. Must be a whole number.
    3. Reward item: Enter the name of reward item the user will receive. Examples: Coins, extra lives
    4. Checkbox: Overrides rewarded settings provided by third-party ad networks. Checked by default.
    5. Frequency capping: Determines the number of times this ad unit can show an ad to the same user. You can choose not to set a limit, or you can limit ads for each user by the number shown per minute, hour, or day.
    6. Ad unit name: Enter a name for this ad unit. Recommended: Include relevant information, such as ad format and location in your app to make it easier to identify later.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Follow the instructions in the Google Developers Get Started guide (Android, iOS) to implement this ad unit in your app code to start showing ads. You will need your app ID and ad unit ID during implementation.
    This ad unit won't show ads until you've completed this step. If you're not ready to implement the ad unit, you can click Email this to send the instructions by email or click Done to exit the page.

AdMob (previous version)

You can use rewarded video ad units to reward users with in-app items for watching video ads. You can specify the reward values and units associated with the ad unit’s placement in your app and set different rewards for different ad units.

Complete the following steps to create an ad unit for an existing app.

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click the Monetize tab.
  3. Select your application from the All apps list on the left-hand side.
  4. Click + New ad unit.
  5. Click Rewarded video.
  6. Provide the following details for the new ad unit:
    • Ad type: Rewarded video ad units are limited to video ads only.
    • Reward amount: Enter the number of reward items the user will receive. Must be a whole number.
    • Reward item: Enter the name of reward item the user will receive. Examples: Coins, extra lives
    • Checkbox: Overrides rewarded settings provided by third-party ad networks. Checked by default. 
    • Frequency capping: Choose whether or not to set a cap on the number of impressions you want to allow to show to each user. Limits the number of times ads are shown to the same user per minute, per hour, or per day for a given ad unit.
    • Ad unit name: Enter a unique name and description that will help you find this ad unit later (e.g., Coin Reward).
  7. Click Save. You'll see the ad unit ID for this ad unit.
  8. Click Done to return to the Monetize tab or click Send an email with these instructions to have instructions sent to you via email.

You've now created an ad unit for your app. To display ads in your app, follow the detailed instructions to incorporate the SDK into your app (for Android, iOS).

 
Currently, you can create up to 100,000 ad units per app.
