Set up AdMob mediation

Mediation groups are combinations of targeting settings that help to optimize the revenue generated by your ad units. You can create mediation groups ahead of time, then add ad units and ad sources as you go, or create them all at once. Instead of setting mediation options for each ad unit repeatedly, you can just set them once for your mediation groups, then add your ad units to the groups you want.

Once you've set up mediation in AdMob, you can use the Google Developers guide (Android, iOS) to implement mediation in your apps.

Complete the steps below to create a new mediation group

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click Mediation in the sidebar.
  3. Click Create mediation group at the top of the mediation groups table.
  4. Select an ad format.
  5. Select a platform.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Enter a name for your mediation group. It should be descriptive so you can find it in the mediation groups table later.
  8. Select the locations you’d like to target or exclude from this mediation group.
  9. Click Add ad units.
  10. Select the ad units you want to associate with this mediation group. When AdMob receives ad requests from the selected ad units, AdMob will try to match the requests to the mediation groups that target those ad units.
  11. Click Done.
  12. Add some ad sources to your mediation groups. When an ad request is received, the ad sources will compete to fill the request. You can always edit a mediation group to add or remove ad sources.
    1. Add the AdMob Network
    2. Add a third-party ad network
    3. Add a custom event
  13. Click Save. The new mediation group will be saved.
  14. If you haven’t already implemented mediation in your apps, use the Google Developers guide to implement it now. If you don't complete this step, mediation won't be able to fill incoming ad requests.

Implement SDKs and adapters

Now that you know which networks you want to serve ads from and you've set them up in AdMob, follow the links below to download and implement the SDKs and adapters in your app:

Previous version of AdMob

With AdMob Mediation, you can serve ads to your apps from multiple sources, including the AdMob Network, third-party ad networks, and house ad campaigns. AdMob Mediation helps maximize your fill rate and increase your monetization by sending ad requests to multiple networks to ensure you find the best available network to serve ads.

Complete the following steps to set up mediation for an ad unit.

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click the Monetize tab.
  3. Select your application from the All apps list on the left-hand side.
  4. Click the link in the Mediation column to the right of the ad unit you want to modify.
  5. Click + New ad network.
  6. Add ad network(s).
    1. Select the ad network(s) you want to add to mediation. You can also create a custom event if your ad network is not supported.
    2. Fill in the required information for each ad network you selected. You must have a valid account with each of these networks for their ads to be sent to your app.
    3. Optional: To enable ad network optimization, check the Automatically pull the eCPM from this ad network box and enter the login credentials for the ad network.
  7. Enter the eCPM value of each ad network. You can find the eCPM value of each ad network from historical reports. If you've enabled ad network optimization, then enter an initial value. The value will be replaced with the live eCPM once AdMob starts collecting historical data.
The eCPM value determines the order of the ad network to serve ads. The ad network with the highest eCPM value is served first. Ad networks with the same eCPM value are distributed evenly.
  8. Click Save.
Be sure to implement the SDKs and adapters for each network you're using for mediation. You don't need to do this for networks you've specified to use SDK-less mediation.

Specify country and continent targeting

You can localize your eCPM values by setting different values for different countries or entire continents. This is useful because some networks perform better in certain parts of the world. For example, you might get a higher eCPM when a particular ad network serves a request in Japan. You would therefore want to set a separate eCPM value for Japanese ad requests handled by this network.

Complete the following steps to set different eCPM values for different countries or continents.

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click the Monetize tab.
  3. Select your application from the All apps list on the left-hand side.
  4. Click the link in the Mediation column to the right of the ad unit you want to modify.
  5. Click the link in the Country-specific settings column to the right of the ad network you want to modify.
  6. Use the region list to select each country and/or continent you want to configure.
  7. Enter the eCPM value(s) for each country and/or continent.
You can click the Edit region button to apply a single eCPM value to all of the countries listed below it. Click Apply to set the new eCPM value.

  8. Optional: Select the Disable ad requests to all other countries checkbox if you want to serve ads only to the countries you specify. Otherwise, all other countries will serve ads based on the default eCPM value.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. Click Save.
