Get started with Picture-in-Picture banners
Apps that have static user interface screens (like homescreens, main menus, and lobbies) are a good fit for PiP banners. PiP banners can be introduced from any corner of the screen (top left, top right, bottom right, or bottom left). Users can dismiss a PiP banner ad after three seconds. Users can drag the PiP ad across the screen and it will snap to the closest corner. PiP banners dismiss through screen transitions by default, but can be configured to persist when transitioning to a new screen.
To implement, you need to create a new banner ad unit or banner ad slot. Learn more about implementing PiP banners for Android and iOS.

Implementation guidance
Ad placement
- PiP banners can be added to any low-interaction user interface screen as long as it adheres to the required policy and guidelines.
- PiP banners can be configured to persist across screens through transitions.
- PiP banners can be re-introduced after the user dismisses them, but only if the user moves to a different screen or at least five seconds have passed since dismissal.
Guidelines
- PiP banners must be implemented to avoid accidental clicks. They should not be displayed on screens where users tap repeatedly, such as during high-intensity gameplay, or at moments when a user is likely to tap where the PiP banner appears. For instance, if a user is expected to tap the top right corner of the screen to complete a task, the PiP banner must not be introduced in that area at that time.
- PiP banners must not persist over full-screen ads (such as interstitials and rewarded videos).
- PiP banners follow the same policies as regular banners (excluding the content overlay). Their usage should adhere to all Google Publisher Policies. For additional information, refer to Banner ad guidance and Discouraged banner implementations.
