Verify your app with app-ads.txt

To help us verify that you’re authorized to monetize an app in AdMob, we’re introducing a new step in the app setup process in AdMob. We’re rolling out this change gradually over 2024.

What’s changing?

Before we check that your app is approved and ready to show ads, we’ll need to verify that you’re authorized to monetize the app. To do this, you’ll need to make sure you have a complete and formatted app-ads.txt file when you set up the app. Learn about setting up an app-ads.txt file

After we verify that you’re authorized to monetize the app, we’ll review your app as part of our app readiness process. Apps won’t be able to fully serve ads until they’re verified with an app-ads.txt file and approved after the app readiness review.

Note: If your app is only listed in a third-party store (not in the Play Store or App Store), you won’t currently be required to verify your app with app-ads.txt.

When will this change happen?

If you created an AdMob account after January 2024, you may be required to verify new apps that you set up in AdMob with an app-ads.txt file from now on. You’ll be prompted to verify your app when you set up a new app in AdMob.

Eventually all AdMob publishers will be required to verify their apps with an app-ads.txt file. We’re continuing to roll out app verification throughout 2024. You’ll be proactively notified in your AdMob account if your app requires app verification to continue serving ads.

How to verify your app

If app verification is required for your app, you’ll be prompted during the setup process. If app verification is required after you’ve set up your app, you’ll be alerted in your App dashboard and in the All apps page.

Step 1: Set up an app-ads.txt file

To make sure your app can be verified, you must first set up an app-ads.txt file. AdMob will regularly crawl for your app-ads.txt file once you set up an app in AdMob, but you’ll still need to verify your app after AdMob verifies your app-ads.txt file.

Step 2: Verify your app

Once your app-ads.txt file is set up, you’ll have to return to your app to request an app verification check.  Go to your App settings page, and click Verify app.

Click Check for updates in the Verify app page that opens. Once your app is verified, the app readiness review will begin.

If your app-ads.txt file wasn’t found or verified, review the information provided and learn more about troubleshooting app-ads.txt issues. You can also view the status and details of your app-ads.txt file in the app-ads.txt tab of your account.

You can also verify your app:

  • From your App overview dashboard, you may be notified if your app’s status is “Requires review” due to app verification. Click Verify app in the message that appears.
  • From the All apps page, find the app you need to verify and click Verify app in the Status details column.
