Ads personalization controls messages (Beta)

These instructions only apply to publishers participating in the "Ads personalization controls messages" beta program. Contact your account manager to learn more.

Using Privacy & messaging, you can create and display an ads personalization controls message to your users that provides them with controls to opt out of ads personalization. User preferences will be passed to Google’s sell-side ad platforms and enforced in ad serving across Google Demand and third-party buyers.

Ads personalization controls messages won't be shown when you're already using an IAB-certified CMP to show messages in areas affected by privacy legislation (such as GDPR or CPRA). This means that any privacy regulation messages you’ve created, such as European regulations messages or US state regulations messages, will supersede ads personalization controls messages.

To learn more about implementing ads personalization controls messages, review the Google Developers documentation for iOS and Android.

Structure of a message

An ads personalization controls message contains a single "screen" (or "page") that is shown to users when they view your message.

Message text is editable if the Edit appears when you hover over it. To edit the text, click Edit and enter the updated text.

Ads personalization controls messages include the following elements:

Settings page: The settings page of your ads personalization controls message. Displays the "Control the ads you see in this app" dialog. Users who see the message will select an option and click "Save" to confirm their decision.

  1. Logo (recommended): Your app's logo. To include a logo here, add a logo to your app.
  2. User choices: The ads personalization controls included in the message for users to select from.
    • "Personalize my ads" option: Allows users to opt in to ads that are personalized using activity in your app.
    •  "Don’t Personalize my ads" option: Allows users to opt out of ads that are personalized using activity in your app.
  3. Disclosure note: Alerts users that some browsers or devices may not permanently save their preferences.
  4. Privacy policy link: Provides users with a link to your privacy policy.
  5. Buttons:
    • "Save" button: Allows users to save their ads personalization settings.
    • "Close" button: Allows users to cancel and close this message.
