Add key-values

How to create key-values to your network

Key-values let you define custom targeting. They are included in ad tags and used in line item targeting and more. Learn more about key-values. If you need the step-by-step on how to add a key-value, jump to How to add keys and values.

Once you create key-values, you or a resource familiar with tagging webpages and apps needs to include them in Google Publisher Tags (GPT) or the Google Mobile Ads SDK. You can then target key-values in line items, proposal line items, and other items.

Before you add a key-value, you should be familiar with how they work. If you're not, review the following to get started:

Add keys

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
  2. Navigate to Inventory and then Key-values.
  3. Click New key-value.
  4. Enter a Name (to be used in the ad request) and a Display name (to be seen by traffickers). Learn more about names versus display names.
  5. Select a Value type.
    • Dynamic: Users will enter targeting values when creating line items or checking inventory.
    • Predefined: Users will select from predefined targeting values.

Learn more about predefined and dynamic key-values.

  6. Under "Report on values," select how or if this key-value appears in reports.
  7. Add values. Adding values is optional before saving. Learn how to add values.
  8. Click Save.

Add values

You can save a key without adding values. However, a key won't be serviceable until you define values.

You must first enter the value name (what appear in an ad request URL) before you can enter its display name. Learn more about names versus display names.

  1. Navigate to Inventory and then Key-values.
  2. Find the key to which you want to add values and go to its details page.
  3. Click New values.
  4. Enter one or multiple values.

There's no need to save when entering values. Click the pencil icon from the list of values to edit the display name.
