Create targeting presets

You may often use the same targeting criteria for line items of a particular advertiser or commonly configured campaigns. Instead of reentering the same set of criteria again and again, you can save time, minimize errors, and keep your campaigns consistent by saving the targeting criteria to a preset. All targeting presets created in your network are available to every trafficker.

Targeting presets are just a quick way to add targeting criteria to a line item. Once you apply a targeting preset, you can make further adjustments to the line item's targeting, apply a second targeting preset, or even reapply the first targeting preset. When there are conflicts between a targeting preset and the existing targeting applied to your line item, Ad Manager prompts you to choose which set of criteria to apply.

Targeting presets aren't separately viewable in reports.

Create a targeting preset

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.

  2. Navigate to Inventory and then Targeting presets.

  3. Click New targeting preset.

  4. Enter a name for the targeting preset.

  5. Apply targeting criteria to the preset.

  6. Click Save.

The targeting preset is now available to be applied to line items.

Save line item targeting criteria to a preset

  1. Create the line item.

  2. Apply targeting criteria to the line item.

  3. To save the criteria to a preset, enter your new preset name in the Save selected criteria as a preset field.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Finish trafficking your line item and save it.

Apply targeting presets to line items

  1. Create the line item.

  2. In the "Targeting" section, start typing the name of the preset you want to use in the Targeting preset list.

    The targeting criteria saved in the template will be displayed in the "Selected criteria" field.

  3. Add another targeting preset or any additional targeting to the line item. When you add multiple targeting presets to a line item, the targeting works like any other criteria you add: an AND relationship for criteria in different categories, and an OR relationship for criteria in the same category.

  4. Finish trafficking your line item and save it.

Resolve targeting conflicts

You can apply more than one targeting preset to a line item, or apply a targeting preset to a line item that also includes other targeting criteria that you've set manually. When you do, Ad Manager checks for any conflicts between the new targeting preset's criteria and the criteria that have already been applied to the line item. For example, if you have already excluded France from your targeting, and now you add a preset that includes France, Ad Manager will prompt you to choose which targeting you want to keep.

You can't apply a targeting preset to a line item if the preset is a subset of the existing targeting for that line item. For example, you can't target a child ad unit using a preset if you're already targeting the child's parent. You'd need to stop targeting the parent ad unit to apply the preset.

Edit targeting presets

You can find your targeting presets in Inventory. To edit a preset, click into it to make changes. Editing a preset has no effect on line items that have already been set up to use the preset.

Delete targeting presets

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.

  2. Click Inventory and then Targeting presets.

  3. Select the targeting presets you want to delete.

  4. Click Delete.

Deleting targeting presets is permanent—you won't be able to recover them once you've deleted. However, it no effect on line items that have already been set up to use the preset.
