Create a target audience

As a Groups administrator, you can create a target audience to help users share items with appropriate departments, teams, or groups.

After you create a target audience, you can add members and apply it to a Google service, such as Google Drive, to make it available in users' sharing settings.

Create target audiences

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Directoryand thenTarget audiences.
     
  3. Click Create target audience.
  4. Under Name, enter a name for the target audience that helps users understand who's a member (40 characters maximum).
  5. (Optional) Under Description, enter a description that helps users understand the purpose of the target audience (150 characters maximum). The description appears when a user points their cursor to the target audience in their sharing settings.
  6. Click Create.
  7. (Optional) To add members (groups or users) to the target audience, click Add members. For details and recommendations for adding members, go to Add or remove target audience members.

    You can also complete this step later.

    Important: Because a new target audience doesn't have any members, make sure you add them before applying the audience to a Google service.

  8. (Optional; requires the Service Settings administrator privilege) To apply the target audience to a Google service, click Apply to Google services, and choose the service. For details, go to Set target audiences for a Google service.

    You can also complete this step later.

  9. (Optional) To create more target audiences, click Create another.
  10. (Optional) If you don't want to add members or apply the target audience to a Google service now, click Done.
