Prevent users from receiving Google+ posts or content

When a Google+ user mentions someone in a post using the ‘+’ sign, post content such as the image and message are sent to the person being added.

You can easily prevent your G Suite users from receiving such messages, however, by disabling the Google+ service for your organization. This prevents your users from receiving any invites, images, or other content shared by Google+ users.

For example, if a Google+ user adds someone to a post, the following occurs:

  • If the email is a G Suite account, but the Google+ service is disabled, no messages or images are received.
  • If the email is a G Suite account, and the Google+ service is enabled, the person will get a notification along with any images.
  • If the email is not from a G Suite account, the person gets an email inviting them to join Google+, along with the embedded image.
If the Google+ service is enabled for your organization, you cannot block Google+ notifications and images for your G Suite users. However, you can control whether your users' posts can be shared outside your organization (learn how).
Disable the Google+ service

To ensure that your G Suite users do not receive any invitations, posts, or images from Google+ users, disable the Google+ service for your organization.

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console.
  2. On the dashboard, click Apps, then click Additional Google services.
  3. Turn off Google+ for the desired organizational units.
  4. Inform your users that Google+ is disabled, if necessary.
