Prevent users from receiving Google+ posts or content

If Google+ is enabled, when a Google+ user mentions someone in a post using the ‘+’ sign, post content such as the image and message are sent to the person being added.

If you don't want your G Suite users to receive such messages, you can disable the Google+ service for your organization. This prevents your users from receiving any invites, images, or other content shared by Google+ users.

For example, if a Google+ G Suite user adds another G Suite user to a post, the following occurs:

  • If the Google+ service is disabled for the user being added, the user will receive no notifications that they've been added to a post.
  • If the Google+ service is enabled for the user being added, the user may receive a notification that they've been added to a post depending on their notification settings.
Disable the Google+ service

To ensure that your G Suite users do not receive any invitations, posts, or images from Google+ users, disable the Google+ service for your organization.

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console.
  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenGoogle+.
  3. Turn off Google+ for the desired organizational units.
  4. Inform your users that Google+ is disabled, if necessary.
