Prevent users from receiving Currents posts or content

If Currents is enabled, when a Currents user mentions someone in a post using +mention, post content such as the image and message are sent to the person being added.

If you don't want your Google Workspace users to receive such messages, you can disable the Currents service for your organization. This prevents your users from receiving any invites, images, or other content shared by Currents users.

For example, if a Currents Google Workspace user adds another Google Workspace user to a post, the following occurs:

  • If the Currents service is disabled for the user being added, the user will receive no notifications that they've been added to a post.
  • If the Currents service is enabled for the user being added, the user may receive a notification that they've been added to a post depending on their notification settings.
Disable the Currents service

To ensure that your G Suite users do not receive any invitations, posts, or images from Currents users, disable the Currents service for your organization.

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console.
  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenCurrents.
  3. Turn off Currents for the desired organizational units.
  4. Inform your users that Currents is disabled, if necessary.
