Allow third-party apps for Drive files

As an administrator, you control whether users can open Drive files with third-party apps and Google Apps Scripts that use the Google Drive API. People might use these apps, (such as those found in the G Suite Marketplace), to edit images and videos, fax and sign documents, manage projects, create flow charts, and more.

You also control whether people in your organization can use the Drive API to programmatically access Drive content from your domain. 

Allow third-party apps to work on files stored in Drive

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console.
  2. Click Apps > G Suite > Drive and Docs > Features and Applications.
  3. To apply the setting to everyone, leave the top organizational unit selected. Otherwise, select a child organizational unit or a configuration group.

    You can select an organizational unit or group for this feature only if you have G Suite Enterprise, Business, Education, Nonprofits, or G Suite Essentials edition. (Compare G Suite editions.)

  4. In the Drive SDK section, check Allow users to access Google Drive with the Drive SDK API.

    When you check this option:

    • Users can open Drive files with third-party apps and scripts that use the Drive API
    • People in your organization can create programs or scripts that use the Drive API to access data from your domain

    Important: This setting does not affect apps from the G Suite Marketplace. Learn how to install and manage Marketplace apps. 

  5. Click Save.

Get support for third-party apps

Third-party apps are not supported by Google. Any problems with a third-party app must be handled by the third-party vendor. To learn how to find contact information for third-party apps, see Use Google Drive apps.
