Downgrade to legacy Free edition

If you're using the legacy Free edition of Google Apps and you started a free trial of G Suite Basic, you can downgrade back to Free edition, but only during the free trial period. After the trial ends, your paid subscription will begin. As a result, you won't be able to downgrade and will no longer be able to use Google Apps for free.

You can't downgrade once your paid subscription begins. You can downgrade to the Free edition during your free trial period. However, once you set up billing and then either add more than 10 users or let the trial expire, the option to downgrade is no longer available.

Before your free trial expires:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in

  2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Billing.
  3. Next to your subscription, clickSettings and choose Cancel subscription.
  4. Select Downgrade to Google Apps.
  5. Click Continue.

Note: If you don't see the downgrade option, you aren't eligible to downgrade. This could be because you're either not in the free trial period, you have more than 10 users in your domain, or you have recently added a secondary domain after upgrading. If you recently added a secondary domain, you can remove the secondary domain and then downgrade.
