Downgrade back to legacy Free edition

If you upgrade from the Free edition of Google Apps to G Suite, you can downgrade back to Free edition, but only during the free trial period. After the trial ends, your paid subscription will begin. As a result, you won't be able to downgrade and will no longer be able to use Google Apps for free.

You can only return to the Free edition during your free trial.

You can't downgrade back to the Free edition if:

    • Your free trial expires
    • You set up billing and add more than 10 users during your trial
    • You never upgraded from the Free edition
    • You cancel your subscription entirely

    How to downgrade

Click below for steps to downgrade. Choose the edition you're downgrading from.

Downgrade from G Suite Basic trial

If you upgraded from the Free edition and are still in your G Suite Basic free trial:

    1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

    2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Billing.
    3. Next to your G Suite Basic subscription, click Settings and choose Cancel subscription.

This doesn't cancel your subscription, yet. If you're still in your free trial, you'll see an option to downgrade.

    4. Select Downgrade to Google Apps and click Continue.

I don't see the downgrade option

    5. Accept the Free edition terms of service.

You should now see the Free edition of Google Apps on your Billing page.

Downgrade from G Suite Business trial

If you upgraded from the Free edition and are still in your G Suite Business free trial:

    1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

    2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Billing.
    3. Next to your G Suite Business subscription, clickSettings and choose Downgrade to G Suite Basic.

I don't see the downgrade option

    4. Select Trial plan. Then click Continue.
    5. Accept the G Suite agreement.

This returns you to G Suite Basic.

    6. Next to your G Suite Basic subscription, click Settings and choose Cancel subscription.

This doesn't cancel your subscription, yet. If you're still in your free trial, you'll see an option to downgrade.

    7. Select Downgrade to Google Apps and click Continue.

I don't see the downgrade option

    8. Accept the Free edition terms of service.

You should now see the Free edition of Google Apps on your Billing page.

I don't see the downgrade option

If you follow steps above to downgrade back to the Free edition and you don't see the downgrade option, you aren't eligible to downgrade. This could be because:

    • You're not in the free trial period.
    • You added more than 10 users during your trial.
    • You added a secondary domain during your trial. (If so, remove the secondary domain and try downgrading again.)
    • You never upgraded from the Free edition.
