Manage Google+ profiles

If you’re an administrator for a G Suite domain, you can create or delete public Google+ profiles for users in your organization.

Note: Make sure you enable Birthday and Gender editing to allow users to create Google+ profiles.

Create Google+ profiles

The Google+ profile created by an administrator includes only the user’s name. You can optionally add the person’s birth date, which is visible only to the user. People can then update their profile with a profile photo, circles, and other rich information.

Important notes
  • The basic Google+ profile created by administrators only includes the user’s name, which is always visible to anyone with the user’s profile URL.
  • Administrators can also set the default for profile discoverability, which makes profiles easier or harder to find outside the organization.
  • Users can change their profile's search results setting at any time if they do or don't want Google and other search engines to index their profile. If the user also adds an (optional) profile photo, tagline, or cover photo, that information is also visible to anyone with the user’s profile URL (these fields can't be restricted to the organization’s domain).
  • The other profile fields can be restricted to your organization’s domain, and even to specific people within the domain. See Manage your Google+ profile for more information.
  • K–12 education organizations cannot currently create Google+ profiles using this feature.
Create Google+ profiles for specific users

To create a Google+ profile for individual users in your organization:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. Add the user, if necessary.
  3. Go to From the Admin console dashboard, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenGoogle+. .
  4. Click Profiles.
  5. Select the box next to one or more users.
  6. Click Create profile Create profiles.

Note: If you attempt to create a Google+ profile for users who have a public Gmail picture or Picasa Web Album, a prompt appears that those users must individually sign-up and acknowledge the changes to their photos

  7. Review the information in the pop-up window and indicate the user's age.
    • If you select a single user, and the the user is 18 or older, choose I certify the user is over the age of 18. If the user is between 13 and 18, choose I certify the user’s birthday is and enter the user’s date of birth.
    • If you select multiple users, you can only certify that they are all over the age of 18.

Tip: Because Google+ has minimum age requirements, you must certify the user's age to create a profile for them. If you cannot certify the user's age, the user can create a G+ profile on their own. Tell users about Google+ Profiles.
  8. Click a person's name to view details about the new profile.
Create Google+ profiles for all users in an organizational unit

G Suite administrators can change a single setting to automatically create Google+ profiles for all users in an organizational unit within your domain.  When enabled, a Google+ profile is created for all current users in the organizational unit, and for new users when they are added.

Because this feature automatically creates Google+ profiles for all current and future users in the organizational unit, you must verify that all users are 18 years old or older. Users under 18 should be added to a different organizational unit with automatic profile creation turned off.

To create G+ profiles for all users in an organizational unit:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Appsand thenG Suiteand thenGoogle+.
  3. Click Advanced settings.
  4. (Optional) Select an organization that has been enabled for Google+.
  5. Under Profile creation, select Automatically create Google+ profiles.
  6. Certify that all users in the organization are over the age of 18 (and that no users under 18 will be added to the organization), and click Apply.
  7. Click Save.

Notes

  • A profile is not created if the user has a public Gmail picture or Picasa Web Album. These users must individually sign up and acknowledge the changes to their photos.
  • Wait up to 48 hours (or longer) for the profiles to be created.  Google+ profiles are also created when you add new users.
  • An email is also sent to users letting them know about their new Google+ profile, including tips to get the most out of Google+.  Learn more
  • A profile is not created if the user previously deleted their Google+ profile. This ensures that the user's previously expressed preference is honored.
